Thompson Poore

Thompson Poore, age 88, of Quincy, died on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, in the Illinois Veterans Home. He was born on January 16, 1934, in Bethel, MO the son of Ray and Mary Gertrude (Smith) Poore. Thompson married Charlotte Adam on January 23, 1965 in Quincy and she survives.

Thompson was a cabinet maker for 25 years at Huck Fixture Company. After his retirement from Huck’s, he wanted to stay active working, so he worked part-time at Wal-Mart.

He grew-up in Hurdland, MO, and was a graduate of Hurdland High School. He attended Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, MO, before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served as a helicopter mechanic. Thompson was a man of faith, and a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife, Charlotte, survivors include his siblings: Mason Poore of Columbia, MO, Frank Poore of Quincy, and Mary Louise (Roy) Blackford of Shelbyville, MO. Brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill Adam of Alexandria, LA; Terry (Janet) Adam of Chesterfield, MO; and Patty Rogers of Ruston, LA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Thompson was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Robert, James, Richard and Donald Poore and Martha Ann Hulcher.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Interment will be in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday morning from 12 noon – 1:00 p.m. in the church. Memorials are suggested to the Illinois Veterans Home Activities Fund or St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church.

    I’m so sorry to hear about Thompson. You know how much I care about him and you. I miss seeing you at Walmart.

    So sorry for your loss, I knew Thompson from working with him at Walmart. So sorry to hear of his passing. He was such a kind hearted nice man. Such a sweetheart, he will be missed and I’m sure he’s earned his wings!! ♡
