Thomas F. Cummings, age 97, of Quincy, died on Friday, January 15, 2021 in Blessing Hospital. Thomas was born on August 29, 1923 in Burlington, Iowa to Leon Raymond and Florence Rose (Bulger) Cummings. He married Anna K. Rastetter on April 24, 1954 in St. John’s Catholic Church in Burlington. She preceded him in death on July 26, 2007.

Thomas was so proud to be one of eleven children and to be the father of eleven children, it was often the first thing he shared with everyone he met.

He especially wanted others to know the importance of the women of his life: his mother who died when he was young, his sisters who took over raising him, his loving and supportive wife, as well as his all his daughters, daughters-in-law, and granddaughters.

Thomas proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a radioman (operator) on a ship stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a graduate of St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa and worked as a Certified Public Accountant at multiple organizations.

Before his first retirement, Thomas served as Chief Financial Officer for Chanen Auto Supply for many years. After a few years of retirement, he was offered a position at Quincy’s Mercantile Bank and was employed there until he retired for the second time at the age of 87.

A part of St. Francis Solanus Parish in Quincy for over 40 years – he was active on the Pastoral Council and served as a member of the School Board and choir, as well as Lector, Minister of Communion, and within St. Vincent de Paul Society. Thomas was also one of the founders of the Quincy Serra Club, an organization supporting religious vocations.

He was a Blessing Hospital volunteer as minister of communion and a member of MEN of Blessing Hospital – for his outstanding service he won the Blessing Hospital ICARE Award.

Thomas loved playing golf and bowling –he also loved to watch golf, baseball, soccer, and football, especially when his children and grandchildren were playing.

Survivors include his children; Jeffrey (Wanda) Cummings, Kevin (Betsey) Cummings, Brian (Niki) Cummings, Thomas (Carrie) Cummings, Paul Cummings, Matthew (Martha) Cummings, Michelle (James) Kasparie, Shawn Cummings, and Karen (Martin) Wagner. Twenty–eight grandchildren living in over a dozen states and five-great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, Kathleen Parmeter, Keokuk IA and Constance Cummings, Davenport IA and numerous nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his wife Anna, Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; daughters Rose Ann Howard and Julia Cummings, a grandson, Jonathon Vogt, brothers Hugh, Jim, and John Cummings, and sisters: Rosemary Korb, Jean Ertz, Anne Smith, Elizabeth Passamani, and Alice Luers

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Noon in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services at the church. Burial with Military honors provided by the United States Navy Funeral Honors Detail and the Quincy American Legion Post No. 37 will be in Calvary Cemetery.
