Thomas E. Smith

Thomas E. Smith, age 82, of 2703 Northridge Drive, died on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 in his home. He was born on May 4, 1933 in Quincy, the son of Thomas E. & Margaret Frances (Hilgenbrink) Smith, Sr. He married Shirley Dowell on September 14, 1953 in St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon, IL.. She preceded him in death on June 26, 2015. Mr. Smith worked for Selby Implement Co. for over 38 years. Tom served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. Tom was a member of the Breakfast Optimists Club. He was also a member of many camping and outdoor clubs. Tom was also a very proud member of Austin’s Army at St. Francis.

Tom loved his family. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his passion. Tom always said that his greatest investment was his children and he was immensely proud of his six girls.

He also loved his dog, ‘Toby’

SIX DAUGHTERS: Mary Lenane of Quincy; Kathy Uppinghouse and her husband Rod of Burton; Mildred Becks and her husband Brian of Quincy; Marjorie Schlueter and her husband Steve of Quincy; Maureen Campbell and her friend Tom Kennedy of Quincy; and Kimberly Freiburg and her husband Dave of St. Louis.
SEVENTEEN GRANDHCILDREN: Thomas Lenane and his wife Holly; Laura Unglesbee; Phillip Nichols; Nichole Uppinghouse; Yvonne Robison and her husband Will; Melissa Bradfield and her husband Chad; Meagan Tipton and her husband Jason; Meredith Becks; Austin Schlueter; Alex Schlueter; Amber Schlueter; Allison Campbell and her fiancé Ryan Struck; Adam Campbell; Mitchell Campbell; Nicholas Freiburg; Anna Freiburg and Jacob Freiburg.
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Levi, Caleb, Carter, Kilee, Ryley, Natalie, Alaina, Abigail, Alyssa, Audrey, Elise, Gavin, Cassidy, Hope and Curtis, Jr.

In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother in infancy.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 9:30 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in St. Francis Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to the St. Francis Parish Center.
