Therese Ann Holbrook

Therese Ann Holbrook age 84, of Quincy died on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 1:08 p.m. in Blessing Hospital. She was born July 26, 1933 in Quincy, a daughter of George and Elizabeth (Peter) Huber.
She married Dennis Holbrook, Sr. on September 20, 1954 and he preceded her in death on June 7, 1995.

Therese was a homemaker. She had been employed at Edgewood Orchards and worked many years as a cook at Cassano’s Pizzaria. She was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church where she was active with the Ladies of St. Francis, she was one of the church’s “Angel Dusters” and she provided food for the funeral luncheons for many years, and she participated in Cursillo. Therese was a member of the American Legion Post #37 Auxiliary and had volunteered her time at the Illinois Veteran’s Home.

She traveled extensively overseas while her husband Dennis served in the U.S. Air Force. Therese loved gardening and had beautiful flowers in her yard.

Survivors include her children, Michael (Susan) Holbrook; Joseph (Carol) Holbrook all of Quincy; Kevin (Becky) Holbrook of Springfield, MO: Dennis (Pat) Holbrook of Quincy; Lynn (Rod) O’Hara of Mendon, IL, Jill (Brian) Grist of Camp Point, IL. Sister, Henrietta Benz of Quincy; Brothers, Albert (Delores) Huber and Earl Huber all of Quincy;

Grandchildren: Christopher (Kesi) Holbrook of Columbia, MO; Jeremy (Erica) Holbrook of Mt. Prospect, IL; Jared (Katie) Holbrook and Briana Holbrook both of Quincy; Lindsey (Luke) Wellman, Ariel Holbrook all of Quincy; Sarah (Tom) McCubbins of Ozark, MO; Rachel (Josh) Baird of Bois de Arc, MO; USAF CPT. Sam (Amanda) Holbrook, of Tampa, FL: Nicole (Jason) Costigan; Liz (Rob) Gengenbacher all of Quincy; U.S. Army PVT, 2nd Class Bryson Grist, Ft. Bliss, TX; Lauren Grist of Camp Point, IL and her grandson-in-law, Jake Tadeo, of Quincy.

Great Grandchildren including, Rush, Dennis, Bruce, Gibson, Louis, Quinn, Hugh, Leah and Claire Holbrook; Hadley Garner, Jack and Molly Costigan; Theodora and Alexandra Gengenbacher; Hazel McCubbins, Archer Baird and Michael Baird.

Her dear friend, Mary Smith of Quincy and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Therese was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson, Evan Holbrook and a granddaughter, Allison Holbrook. Brothers and sisters, Wilfred Huber, Antonine Lenz, Herman Huber, Marion Huber, Germaine Schmidt and in infancy, Alphonse and Charlotte Huber.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church with Rev. Robert Barko, O.F.M. celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Francis Church. Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Church, Boys Town or the Allison Holbrook Scholarship Fund for St. Francis School.

    To the Holbrook family, Theresa was the sweetest lady. Always loved speaking with her when we saw her. May God grant you comfort and peace during your time of loss and sorrow.
