Theresa “Rosie” Hugenberg

Theresa Rosella “Rosie” Hugenberg, age 76, of 1106 East 1500th Street, Quincy, was unexpectedly taken from us, on Sunday, August 4, 2013, in Blessing Hospital as a result of a brain aneurism. Born on March 20, 1937 in rural Ewing, MO, she was a daughter of Bernard Otto and Veronica Elnora “Ella” (Kroeger) O’Brien. She married Robert J. “Bob” Hugenberg on January 30, 1960 in Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ewing, MO. He preceded her in death on January 20, 2013.

Rosie was a graduate of Ewing High School in Ewing, MO. She worked at Motorola and Melrose Gardens. Together she and Bob raised a family of nine children whom Rosie devoted her full attention. She enjoyed helping with the family farming operation which allowed her to be outdoors. Her passions in life were faith, family, friends and her dogs. Rosie was an excellent cook and spoiled her family with many special dishes. Rosie was an avid reader and never missed a day of reading her local paper. She will always be remembered for her vegetable gardens, beautiful flowers, well kept home, kind heart and strong work ethic. Family gatherings at home were very special to Rosie and she will always be with her family in spirit.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; St. Joseph Altar Society and Adams County Farm Bureau.

She is survived by nine children: Dan Hugenberg and his wife Rose Ann of Liberty, IL, Debbie O’Malley and her husband Joe of Omaha, NE, Jim Hugenberg of Quincy, IL, Ron Hugenberg of Quincy, IL, John Hugenberg and his wife Lisa of Springfield, MO, Carl Hugenberg of Quincy, IL, Roger Hugenberg and his wife Kim of Canton, MO, Dennis Hugenberg of Payson, IL and Rich Hugenberg and his fiance Kara Scott of Clayton, IL. She was a loving grandmother to thirteen grandchildren: Ben Hugenberg of Liberty, IL, Elizabeth and Lauren O’Malley of Omaha, NE, Lucas and Andrew Hugenberg of Quincy, IL, Alexis (Michael) Gilmore, Nicholas and Austin Hugenberg all of Springfield, MO, Taylor Garkie and Laken Hugenberg of Canton, MO and Samantha, Dillon and Tori Hugenberg of Payson, IL.

Also surviving are brothers, Lawrence O’Brien of Lewistown, MO, G.L. “Mike” O’Brien and his wife Clara of Quincy, IL, William “Butch” O’Brien and his wife Dorothy of Lewistown, MO; brothers-in-law, Donald Hugenberg and his wife Sheila of Quincy, IL, Raymond Schmidt of Durham, MO; sister-in-law, Delores Obert and her husband LeRoy of Quincy, IL. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.

In addition to her husband, Bob, and her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Don O’Brien; a sister Margaret Kathleen Schmidt; granddaughter, Katie Hugenberg; grandson Robert Alan Hugenberg, in infancy; sisters-in-laws Pat O’Brien and Patty Hugenberg; and brother-in-law Kenny Hugenberg.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Masses may be given in Rosie’s memory.

    I am so sorry to learn of Rosie’s death…she was always kind to me…I will always remember her smile and the little laughter she had…she has been a wonderful wife, mother, cousin, grandmother, and etc. She leaves an empty place in the the hugenberg family. She is now joined with her partner in life….
