Terrence “Terry” Simons

Terrence “Terry” Simons age 66, of 2009 South Sheridan Drive, Quincy died on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 2:28 a.m. in Blessing Hospital surrounded by family and friends. He was born July 15, 1948 in Quincy, a son of Raymond F. and Ruth D. (Wombles) Simons. He married Linda K. Cassidy on April 29, 1972 in Quincy’s St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and she survives.

Terry graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Navy and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. Terry was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish, where he served as an usher for many years.

Terry was a Quincy Police Department officer for more than 26 years, retiring in 1999. He then went to work at the Quincy Public Schools as a custodian, retiring in 2013.

He loved spending time at his river camp, boating, fishing and being together with his family.

In addition to his wife Linda, survivors also include his children, Krista Simons Gliva and her husband Steve of Evanston, IL; Susie Eaton and her husband Andy; Andy Simons and his wife Dana; Erin Wyatt and her husband Jim all of Quincy. Five grandchildren, Lily Gliva, Maddie and Lauren Eaton, Casey Simons and Hailey Simons; one step-grandson, Zach Wyatt; a step-brother, Phil Eatherton and his wife Marsha of Charlotte, NC; two brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepdad, Paul Eatherton, and his brother Grant Simons.

Funeral services will be on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by the Msgr. Michael Kuse. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Parish, Quincy Notre Dame or to the Blessing Cancer Center.

    Linda & Family, So sorry to hear of Terry’s passing. You were once neighbors of my mom, Betty Wheeler, and she loved spending time with the kids. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult and sad time.

    Linda and I have been childhood friends. I met Terry in high school and a lot of us ran around together and had many great times. Remember Terry always is being reserved thoughtful kind. He was a dedicated police officer, and loving husband, father, and grandfather. God bless and strengthen his entire family.
