Sterlene (Boyd) Benton
Sterlene (Boyd) Benton, age 73, of Quincy died on Sunday, July 18, 2021
in Blessing Hospital. She was born on August 9, 1947 in Rossville, TN the daughter of Albert L. and Elizabeth (Walker) Boyd, Sr. She married Tommie L. Benton, Sr. on August 13, 1966.
Sterlene had worked at the Illinois Veteran’s Home, Davis & Cleaver and she was employed at Blessing Hospital Food and Nutrition Department, until her retirement. She was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church and had been superintendent of the Sunday School during the 1980’s thru the1990’s.
Sterlene is survived by her mother, husband, and children: Gloria Benton, Tommie (Jessica) Benton, Jerolene Benton, Cynthia Benton and Terry Benton all of Quincy. Brothers: Johnnie L. Walker, Sr. of Memphis, TN, Don Walker of Rossville, TN, Willie (Melony) Walker of Memphis TN and Dennis Boyd of GA. Sisters: Margaret Stein Gunn of Rossville, TN, Millie Grandberry of Kansas City, MO and Sharon of FL. A special great uncle, Sonny Walker; grandchildren: Timothy Reinberg, Tomeka Reinberg Ronette Leonard, Nicole (Josh) Hall, Armand Brown, Tyrese Raymond, Tamera Raymond, Jazmin Harris, Lakendra Charles, Leann Charles, Tevin Charles, Landon Benton, Derrick (Lisa) Wade, Nathaniel Wade, Preston Burrows and Brittany Talton. Great-grandchildren: Treyden Humphrey, Timia Reinberg, Kaliya Hall, Trenae Humphrey, Mykel Reinberg, Ivana Ostrander, Corey Ostrander, Jr., Mayson Raymond, Harland Hall, Evelyn Townes, Liam Townes, Lincoln Charles, Talayla Reinberg, Agoddess Reinberg, Kadien Leonard, Aralyn Leonard and Raya Vaughn and Kamayiah. Her special cat, Tabboo and many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
She was preceded in death by her father, son, Joseph Benton, sister, Helen Anderson, brother, Albert Boyd, Jr., sister-in-law, Emma Walker, grandson, Kevin Charles, nephew, Brandon Walker, four grandchildren in infancy, 4 great grandchildren in infancy and an adopted daughter, Dana Burrows.
Funeral services are planned for Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Cecil Fletcher. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 at the funeral home. The family requests everyone attending the visitation and service to wear a mask and social distance. Sterlene’s favorite color was purple, and those attending are invited to wear something purple. Memorials may be made in care of Cynthia Benton for the grandchildren.
Dear Mr. Benton & Family: We just found out this evening about Mrs. Benton’s passing. So sorry for your loss. She was a very kind lady. We have missed her in the neighborhood. We are praying for strength for your family. God bless each of you.
