Stephen T. “Whitey” White
Stephen T. “Whitey” White, a self-professed “salt-crusted, retired U.S. Navy Master Chief Electronics Technician” died on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 in Blessing Hospital.
Chief White, an “Atomic Vet”, served in three destroyers, an aircraft carrier, staff duty with a destroyer R&D “think tank”, as well as a ’round-the-world’ “cruise” during his Vietnam era service. After his naval career, he continued work in commercial and military electronics, expanding into FDA controlled cardiac and dental fields.
Whitey was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Margaret and only sibling, Joan (Gillette).
Survivors include his bride, Jean Ellen of 42 years (short of their 50 year contract), two children: Marian E. (Michael) Rawlings and Stephen T. (Kathleen) White and five grandchildren. He received much needed physical support from his step-son Michael W. (Melissa) Hinkamper and in-laws local to the area.
Graveside services with military honors will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made as a matter of conscience to any apolitical veteran service organization, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
