Stephen C. Zinn, age 69, of 1270 Park Place, Quincy, IL, died on Tuesday, October 31 at 7:44 am in his home.
Steve was born on October 15, 1948, in Waukegan, IL, a son of Leroy V. and Dorothy C. (Main) Zinn. He attended schools in Zion, IL, through high school, and later participated in several job-related short courses and trainings. In 1969, he married Linda Apker in Kenosha, WI. Together, they had his two children, Jeremy and Jennifer. Steve later married Connie Bunch, and they were married for 20 years.
He moved to Quincy in 2006 and most recently worked as an Operations Administrator for FedEx. He previously worked at the Quincy Herald Whig. Steve had other interesting occupations throughout his life. In Kenosha, he worked as a draftsman at American Motors Corp. Later, he owned his own construction company. He was a Paramedic for the Florissant, MO Fire Department, then served as an Ambulance Dispatcher for Christian Northeast Hospital.
Steve was a member of Madison Park Christian Church, where he sang in the choir. He was known for his sharp wit and sense of humor. Steve loved to shop, and he made sure his nieces and nephews, and their children, had an ample supply of Oreo cookies – which led to his nickname of “Uncle Oreo.”
Survivors include his children, Jennifer Renee Worch (and husband Troy), of Fayetteville, NC, and Jeremy Scott Zinn (and wife Tonja), of St. Peters, MO. His surviving brothers and sisters include John Michael Zinn, of California; Lorraine M. Zinn, Vernon L. Zinn (and wife Becky), of Quincy; and Akia Tanara, of Crestone, CO.
Grandchildren include Emily (Worch) Zinn; Alyssa, Isaiah, Josiah, Samuel, Talya and Anyah Worch; Brandon, Christopher, Dakota, Kaitlyn, Evan and Leah Zinn; and Jessica (Zinn) Mattingly. He had two great grandchildren: Lydia Mattingly and Maya Zinn. A step-granddaughter, Gabbi Bunch, and eight nieces and nephews and great- nieces and nephews also survive.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife Linda; a brother, Brian E. Zinn; two sisters, Carolyn M. Vasquez and, in infancy, Rosemary C. Zinn; and a grandson, Aaron J. Zinn.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 11, at 2:00 p.m., at Duker-Haugh Funeral Home, with visitation at 1:30. Private inurnment is planned. Memorials are suggested to Madison Park Christian Church or the Quincy Humane Society.
