Shirley J. Kreinberg

Shirley J. Kreinberg age 81 of Quincy, died on Saturday, March 26, 2016 in Blessing Hospital. She was born on September 25, 1934 in Quincy, the daughter of Henry H.M. and Thelma A.E. (Griffin) Schmidt. She married her late husband Raymond G. Kreinberg on September 25, 1954 in Quincy’s St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church where they were members for 22 years.

Shirley had worked at C & M Business, and as a Unit Secretary at St. Mary Hospital for 12 years, and Blessing Hospital for 14 years, retiring in 2008.

In earlier years as a member of St. Francis Church, Shirley was a Den Mother for several years. In 1976, she and Ray joined St. Peter Church, where they were both active members. Shirley was a participant in the Adoration Chapel at St. Peter since its inception, and she helped provide meals for parish funeral dinners. She made a Cursillo in 1981, and attended many Bible studies since 1975.

Shirley had volunteered in the Mentor Program at the Quincy Public Schools for 3rd thru 5th graders, and was a volunteer for the Back-to-School Program for several years as well. Shirley was a co-chaperone for the QND High School students that traveled to Houston, TX for the National Catholic Youth Conference. She and her husband took a great many bus trips and traveled North, South, East and West, and in the process saw a lot of the U.S.A.

Ray and Shirley participated in the Senior Golden Games, they played tennis, badminton, table tennis, horse shoes and played in the Pinochle tournament. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and loved babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She loved professional sports, especially the NBA. The Boston Celtics were her favorite team. She liked working puzzles, playing cards, reading Christian books and taking water aerobics at Q.U. with her friends.

Surviving are Shirley’s children: Tony Kreinberg of Creve Coeur, MO; Tim Kreinberg of St. Louis, MO; Angie Roan of Quincy; Jane (Pat) Carley and Patrick Kreinberg all of Quincy.

8 Grandchildren: Brooke Roan and Ashlea Lausten; Shannon Fleming; Katie and Samuel Kreinberg; Jonah, Liam, and Sophia Kreinberg; 5 Great-Grandchildren: Matthew and Miah Ballard, Channing and Zoey Trevino; and Londyn Fleming.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three siblings and her husband Ray.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 30, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Church of St. Peter. Memorials are suggested to Blessing Foundation for Hospice, the American Cancer Society for Sarcoma Research or to the Church of St. Peter.

    So very sorry to hear about Shirley passing. Just saw her at the theater not that many months ago. She was a very special lady.She will be missed. Sending special prayers to family. The loss of a Mother is very hard.
