Sherry Lee Anderson

Sherry Lee Anderson, age 63, died on Saturday, June 29th, 2013 at Blessing Hospital. She is survived by parents Howard and Bonnie (Boll) Anderson of Quincy, IL, sister and brother-in-law Christine and Rodney Ward, nephew Christopher Smith, pet Schnauzer Simcha, as well as numerous cousins, aunts, and an uncle. She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Charles and Mildred Anderson, maternal grandfather Edgar Boll and maternal grandmother and step-grandfather Bernice and James Fletcher.

Sherry will be remembered for her voracious appetite for life. An international traveler, lover of animals, and patron of the arts, her zeal for knowledge extended beyond the overflowing stacks of books in her home. She was a thinker, a true friend, and the wisdom of her soul was apparent to anyone she encountered and subsequently influenced.

A 1968 graduate of Quincy Senior High School, Sherry went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Quincy College in 1972, and completed her Master’s Degree from Northeastern University in Boston, MA where she specialized in Vocational Rehabilitation. It was a combination of this education and her caring spirit that enabled Sherry to touch so many lives. As a Vocational Counselor at the State of Illinois Department of Rehabilitation Services for the last ten years, Sherry helped hundreds of individuals find out what they loved, what they were good at, and how to apply this in finding employment that maximized their potential. Described as a giant in her field, it was the integrity, thoughtfulness, and unyielding compassion she brought to her profession that set her apart.

Sherry’s devotion to her fellow man, however, did not end at the timeclock. As a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Sherry served as a missionary in Taiwan for 18 months. Once back in the United States, she continued her missionary work daily by living an inspired life that will serve as an example to all those who mourn her departure.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 220 Cardinal Terrace in Quincy. Interment in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and on Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the services. Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice or to the Quincy Humane Society.

I am truly saddened to hear of Sherry’s death. I remember her fondly from my childhood probably around the time she was going to Quincy College. She was close then with my Aunt Cathy and a dear sweet person with a great fun loving attitude. She will be missed.
