Sara Elizabeth Briggs OBITUARY

Sara Elizabeth Briggs age 85, of Mendon, formerly of Pascagoula, Mississippi died on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011 at 7:46 a.m. in Blessing Hospital.

Sara was born August 5, 1926 in Electric Mills, MS a daughter of Aaron and Hazel (Fea) Briggs. She married Dr. Robert Walker Gordon on November 9, 1948 and together they had three children. She was a Naval Cadet in Tampa, Florida, then attended college in Mississippi and Kentucky. Sara was a professor of special education who taught at Outwood State Hospital, Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, Hopkinsville High and several schools in Florida over the span of her career. She was of the Catholic faith.

Sara loved traveling internationally, lived life to the fullest and adored her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Sara Jane Buckman of Hannibal, MO and Jan Gordon of Princeton, KY; a sister Jane Briggs Shreve and her husband Dr. William Shreve of Bowling Green, KY; nine grandchildren, Scott Gordon, Sara Beth Harris, Ann Lauren Cash, Rob Heaton, Luke Heaton, Melly Heaton, Aaron Mabry, Seth-Gordon Mabry and Briggs Buckman.

Five Great-Grandchildren survive along with nieces and nephews.

Sara was preceded in death by her parents and son, Briggs Gordon.

Memorial services will be held in Princeton, KY at Ogden Memorial on November 13, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment will take place in Briggs Chapel Cemetery in Porterville, MS.
