Sandra S. Porter
Sandra S. Porter, age 79, of the Good Samaritan Home, died on Friday, August 25, 2017 surrounded by her family, at Good Samaritan Home. She was born on September 9, 1937 in Quincy, IL the daughter of Kenneth & Lera (Smith) Daugherty. She married Richard Porter on July 21, 1957. He preceded her in death on December 10, 2001. Over the years, Sandra worked at Gates Radio, Graham Orchard and for Niemann Foods. She attended Granview Church.
Sandra enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s activities. She was a fan of QU Basketball. Her greatest love was time spent with her family.
She is survived by:
TWO CHILDREN: Debra Cooper and her husband Mike of Tulsa, OK; and Douglas Porter and his wife Renee of Quincy, IL.
FOUR GRANDCHILDREN: Jeremy Cooper and his wife Jennifer; Andrew Cooper and his husband Matt; Julie Harper and her husband Blake and Jennifer Porter.
SIBLINGS: Barbara Leapley and her significant other Bill; Danny Daugherty and his significant other Penny and Lanny Daugherty and his significant other Michelle.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
In addition to her husband, Sandra was also preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, September 1, 2017 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Home or to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Sandy was one of our dearest friends ever since we first met her when she began attending Grandview Church. She became “family” to my mother Becky Bangert, as well as to us. She called my mother ” Mother Hen”, and us “Sister Suzie” and “Brother Butch”. We have stayed in phone contact with her ever since she first became a resident at Good Sam. We talked at least twice a week for months; maybe only once every other week the past 2 or 3 months. Sandy was a great person, a great believer in the Lord, and she had a very kind and generous spirit. I believe my Mother was one of many who gave her a big hug soon after Sandy entered heaven. We shall miss her but shall remember great memories of her and with her. We loved her very much, and though we shall miss her, we know where she is and that her pain and bad health are over. She is free of it all and happy!

Sandy was truly a wonderful, caring person. She reached out to me with kindness and it meant so much especially during a difficult time. She was a sweet person who made others feel special. She passed this on to her children and I have always been grateful to have known Sandy. Thinking of you Debbie and Doug. Prayers and hugs.

What a joy to have known Sandy. We will miss her smiling face at the QU basketball games. She was a fighter and gave life her all.

To Sandy’s family, we were so sorry to hear of her passing. We used to have so much fun when we lived in the mobile home park walking and going places together. Shed always call on Halloween night to see if we or her had more trick or treaters. All of our neighborhood picnics and get to gethers she was always there to help out. Also when someone passed away she and I always went to our friends out there and took up a collection either for flowers or food. That is just the kind of GOOD PERSON Sandy was. Doug and Debbie, your mom was one of the sweetest people I have ever met and I felt so privileged to get to help take care of her at Good Sam. She will forever be in my heart. May God bless you and you will be in my prayers.
My first memory of Sandy is as a role model of intelligence and perseverance. She never wavered in her in her strength and compassion. Sandy was indeed a blessing to our family.
