Sally Ann Gerding
Sally Ann Gerding age 77, of Quincy died on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 1:05 p.m. in St. Vincent Home. Sally was born in Quincy on November 4, 1943, a daughter of Wilbur H. “Bud” and Edna Mae (Allen) Duesterhaus.
In addition to being a homemaker, Sally had worked at the Y.W.C.A., at the After School Childcare Program at St. Francis and the Early Learning Center at Blessing, it was through these jobs that she could do what she loved, caring for and interacting with children.
Sally was of the Catholic faith. She was known for her great sense of humor and her smile. Her co-workers described her as fun to work with, and after her retirement she liked organizing “staff meetings” with her girls. She was a St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan, and she liked watching and listening to sporting events and game shows. Spending time with her friends and “going to the boat” were activities she also enjoyed.
Survivors include her two sons, Jason Gerding and Ryan Gerding both of Quincy.
Grandchildren, Alex Boyd, Kendall and Conner Gerding, Jacob, Nekoda, Emalie, Shay and Lincoln Gerding.
Her siblings, Bob (Jenny) Duesterhaus; Sue (Bud) Arenz; and Jerry (Sharon) Duesterhaus. Nieces and nephews also survive.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at The Club, 1023 North 10th, Quincy, IL. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Ryan Gerding, the Senior Center Activities Fund or the Activities Fund at St. Vincent Home.
Jason and Ryan, I was saddened to hear about the loss of your mother. I know she loved her family above all else. I pray that God gives you the strength you need in the days ahead and that HE will fill your hearts and memories with only the great moments you shared with your mother. God Bless.

So friendly and loving. I noticed her name in Whig, a bit late. Prayers to the family, sorry for your loss.
So many years past and full of wonderful memories with Sally, her siblings, her parents and my parents’ friendship especially thru St. Rose of Lima church and grade school. My Mom Becky and her Mom Edna Mae, who remained best of friends for life, were joint Brownie Leaders for Sally and my sister in Sally’s class and my class, one year younger. Sally and my sister also won first place in the bicycle decorating parade ridding double dressed as bride and groom. We went on picnics and went fishing cooking breakfast on an open fire. Those were fun days. Deepest Sympathy to the entire family. It is a great loss.
I’m sorry for your loss. Sally was a year ahead of me at Notre Dame. She was always so nice. I’ll remember her and your family in my prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of growing up next door and spending time with your family. I appreciated Sally teaching me how to play pitch and allowing me to come over to play cards. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sally always had a smile for everyone. Great Lady! Peace to all the family.
The Damhorst’s were on the other side of the alley & we had many parties & potlucks. We also played games & also cards at the high hat. I can still see Sally with her drink & the winning cards in her hands!

Sally was one of only two babysitters, (Sue was the other one), that actually had the courage to come back for a second stint of herding the wild little Duesterhaus boys on 10th street in the early ‘60s. Things went very smoothly after we figured out that Sally meant what Sally said. Her delightfully dry sense of humor so much mirrored Bud’s.

Jerry, Bob and Sue: so sorry to hear of Sally’s passing. We just had our 60th class reunion and Sally was spoken of fondly. Remember her from St. Rose and Notre Dame.
