Ruth Tossick
Ruth A. Tossick, age 85, of 301 N. 8th, died on Thursday, November 16, 2017 in her home. She was born on July 29, 1932 in Quincy, IL the daughter of Carl & Frances (Dittmer) Ridder. She was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and attended Quincy College. She married William H. “Bill” Tossick on April 16, 1955. He preceded her in death on April 3, 1998.
Ruth was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and the Women’s City Club. She volunteered at Blessing Hospital. Ruth was devoted to her family and adored her grandchildren. Even when her grandchildren became adults, she loved to have them all pile on ‘grandma’s’ lap. Ruth also treasured the many friendships she made in recent years at Sunset Apartments. Ruth and her wonderful sense of humor will truly be missed.
Ruth is survived by:
THREE CHILDREN: Bruce H. Tossick and his wife Cindy; Barbara Denum and her husband Patrick; and Robert J. “Bob” Tossick and his wife Linda all of Quincy.
FIVE GRANDCHILDREN: Michael Tossick; Michelle Shortridge and her husband Charlie; Laura Denum; Katheryn “Katie” Tossick; & Matthew Tossick.
TWO GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Henry & Harris Shortridge.
ONE BROTHER: Theodore “Ted” Ridder and his wife Cindy
ONE SISTER: Marilyn Ridder.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
In addition to her husband, Ruth was also preceded in death by her parents, and siblings: Charles Ridder, Fran Kacynski and Catherine “Kitty” Byerly.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 9:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 9:30 in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in St. Boniface Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Meals on Wheels program.
Bruce and Cindy and all of the family. I am so sorry for your loss. I just saw the obituary for your mom as I am in Florida for part of the winter so I am sorry I was not able to give you my sympathy earlier. Just know I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
