Ruth Josephine Teijido, age 100, resident of the Illinois Veterans Home, died there on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Ruth was born June 12, 1917 in Quincy, the eldest of ten children of Albert F. and Kathryn (Schutte) Doellman.
She married Jose M. Teijido on January 26, 1946 in Quincy’s former St. Mary Catholic Church. He preceded her in death in October of 1967.

Ruth was a registered nurse, during her career she worked at St. Mary Hospital and the Good Samaritan Home in Quincy. She retired in June of 1985. She was a graduate of Quincy High School and a 1938 graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing.

She served her country in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II from 1941 to 1946, achieving the rank of Captain. In recognition of her military service and in honor of her 100th birthday last June, Ruth was given the “Women in American History Award” by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. At her birthday celebration, she was honored by the Dorothy Quincy Chapter of the NSDAR and the Signal Hill Chapter NSDAR of Barrington, IL. In addition, the Army Nurse Corps Association presented her with an ANCA coin in recognition of service to patients and country.

A member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Ruth was a member of the Altar Society, the 60 and Over Club and the Quilting Club at the church.

Ruth was devoted to her family and to taking care of others. She was independent, hard-working, honest, and loyal. She was an excellent cook and loved baking pies and brownies for her family. She was an avid quilter, creating cherished family heirlooms.

She is survived by her children Thomas (Maureen Naughtin) Teijido of Pekin, IL and Dolores (Steve) Haschemeyer of Quincy. She is also survived by brothers George (Dodie) Doellman and Paul Doellman and a sister Irene Doellman, all of Quincy, along with nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Joseph A. Teijido and his wife Darlene, two grandchildren, Carolyn Teijido and Samuel Haschemeyer, daughter-in-law Janet Teijido, a brother Albert L. Doellman and sisters Mildred Altgilbers, Florence Hollenstine, Mary Paul, and Alvera Archibald.

Visitation will be 4:00 – 6:00 pm on Sunday, April 15 at Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #37 and the Illinois National Guard Honors Detail.
