Ruth E. Lohman
Ruth E. Lohman age 94, of Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 901 St. Charles, Quincy died on
Monday, January 2, 2012 in the home. Ruth was born October 11, 1917 in Quincy, a daughter of Albert Ferdinand and Catherine Agnes (Timpe) Sohn.
She married Anthony Clement Lohman on November 29, 1944 in St Joseph Rectory in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death on February 26, 1972.
For many years, Ruth and her husband owned and operated Lohman’s Market on South 8th Street, and she later worked at State Street Store.
She was a graduate of St. Mary Grade School and was a life- long member of Blessed Sacrament Parish (St. Mary’s).
Ruth was a member and officer of the Altar Society at St. Mary’s, a member of the 60 and Over Club, the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, the Sacred Heart League and she had taken part in Cursillo. She was active with the Ladies of Charity, and volunteered at their Thrift Store.
Ruth was an avid quilter; she was delighted by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished the time she spent with them.
Survivors include her daughters: Marcia Steinkamp and her husband Dennis; Caryl Koch and her husband Richard, and Patricia Flaiz and her husband Steve all of Quincy;
Grandchildren, Nick (Jill) Steinkamp. Krista (Don) Clipper, Andrew (Teresa) Steinkamp. Katie Steinkamp and her fiance Patrick Bommarito, C. Michael (Tammy) Koch, Kenneth Koch, William (Laura) Koch and Stephanie Flaiz Miller.
Great-Grandchildren, Allison, Jamie, Paul and Isaac Steinkamp; Logan and Caleb Clipper, Christopher Clay and Eli Miller.
Two brothers, LeRoy Sohn and Albert “Bud”(Joyce) Sohn
a sister-in-law, Mary Sohn all of Quincy; many nieces and nephews also survive.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Robert A. Lohman; 2 brothers, Harold and Emil Sohn; a sister, Charlotte Neuman; a grandson, John Flaiz and a grandson-in-law, Nick Miller.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by the Msgr. Michael Kuse. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament School or to Blessing Foundation for HOSPICE.
