Russell R. “Russ” Goehl

Russell R. “Russ” Goehl, age 81, of 6231 Horseshoe Valley Rd, died on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at 1:16 AM in his home. He was born on September 6, 1935 in Fowler, IL the son of Raymond & Johanna (Bockenfeld) Goehl. He married Annette Ashdown on June 22, 1957 in Elmhurst, IL. She survives.

Russ was a partner in the law firm of Goehl, Schuering, Cassens & Bier, practicing law in the Quincy area for over 55 years. Russ was honored by the Illinois Bar Association for 50 years of practicing law. He was dedicated to his profession and was a mentor to many people throughout his career.
He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. He was a member of the Quincy Exchange Club and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.

Russ was an ideal man that had a passion for life and touched many people with his rigorous life journey. Russ came from a family of dedicated farmers and he loved riding his horses and giving Sunday buggy rides.

Most of all, Russ loved his family unconditionally. He treated his children and grandchildren as though each were his favorite, and that each of their activities were equally and vitally important to him. He was a model family man and was loved by all.

In later years, Russ also loved an afternoon ride in his 1929 Model A. He always had a trip to St. Louis on his calendar to go see his beloved St. Louis Cardinals play ball. Along with family gatherings and visiting local establishments, Russ was a guy that enjoyed a cold beverage. Russ was involved in numerous charities and organizations that proved his commitment and compassion to what was important to him. He cherished his friends and was known as the guy with the contagious smile and a handshake that stood for “You’re a great friend”. He lived life to the fullest, and his vibrant spirit will be deeply missed.

In addition to his wife, Russ is also survived by: FOUR DAUGHTERS: Teresa “Terry” Spencer and her husband Jim of Quincy; Kathleen “Kathie” Nunn and her husband Leroy of St. Clair, MO; Mary Jo White and her husband Scott of Queen Creek, AZ; and Kelly Lahr and her husband Bob of LaGrange, MO. GRANDCHILDREN: Adam Whitney and his wife Stephanie; Amber Becks and her husband Dustin; Audrey Huhnke and her husband Jacob; Bobby Spencer; Amanda Malone and her husband Seth; Kristin Arnold and her husband Casey; Justin Nunn; Chad White and his wife Katie; Britani Dickinson and her husband Robert; Cpl. Broc White, USMC; Brandon Lahr and his wife Diane; Drew Lahr and his wife Sara; Blake Lahr and Shelby Lahr. 9 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN;
SIBLINGS: Kenneth Goehl and his wife Joyce; James Goehl and his wife Lawana all of Fowler, IL; Nancy Sellers and her husband Bruce of Edwardsville, IL; A SISTER-IN-LAW: Arlene Goehl of Fowler; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.

In addition to his parents, Russ was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Nikki White, a brother Lloyd Goehl; a sister: Sharon Ann Goehl and his cousin Bill Goehl, who was like a brother to him.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 9:15 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Unity Point Hospice or to the Alzheimer’s Association of Adams County, IL. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
