Russell L. Jansen
Russell L. Jansen, age 78, of 4612 North 72nd, Quincy, died on Monday, August 5, 2013 at 9:06 PM in Blessing Hospital. He was born on November 7, 1934 in Quincy, the son of Edmund F. & Frances M. (Hummel) Jansen. He married Helen Laura Holtschlag on September 2, 1961 in St. Mary Catholic Church. She survives.
Russ was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. He served in the United States Army. He was employed at Moormans Research Farm for 30 years until retiring in 1991. Upon retirement he embarked in various adventures including working for area farmers and many enjoyable years at Edgewood Orchards. Russ loved bowling and was an avid QND and Cardinal Sports fan. He also loved his vast garden and yard where he spent numerous hours. He was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister.

A SON: Gary Jansen and his wife Kris of Macomb;
TWO DAUGHTERS: Susan Bickert and her husband Rich of Lake St. Louis and Judie Mehaffy and her husband John of Quincy.
SIX GRANDCHILDREN: Tyler and Matthew Jansen, Brendan and Brady Bickert; and Lauren and Ian Mehaffy.
SIBLINGS: Edmund Jansen and his wife Sandy; Marilyn Barry and her husband George; and Eugene Jansen and his wife Betty.
BROTHERS-IN-LAW and SISTERS-IN-LAW: Mary Miller; Louis Holtschlag and his wife Lola; Cecelia Duesterhaus and her husband Les; Alice Mast and her husband Dick; Leroy Holtschlag and his wife Evelyn; Kenneth Holtschlag and his wife Teresa; George Holtschlag and his wife Mary Pat; Delores Ringenberg; Pete Holtschlag and his wife Kathy and Steve Holtschlag and his wife Debbie.
Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews and other relatives also survive.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents, a sister-in-law: Carol Holtschlag and a brother-in-law: Tom Holtschlag.
The family would like to express gratitude to Doctor Leimbach and his staff, the ambulance crew, and everyone at Blessing Hospital for the caring and compassionate manner in which they cared for Russ.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 9:15 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 in St. Joseph Catholic Church by celebrants Father Jeff Stone and Father Louis Schlangen. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the QND Athletic Department, the QND Band, or to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Helen, am so sorry for your loss. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers. I have lots of good memories of all our family reunions in Quincy. May you hold your memories close and may they give you comfort and peace.
