Rt. Rev. Stephen D. Strawn
Bishop Stephen D. Strawn, 63, of Quincy, Illinois, formerly of Malakoff, Texas, passed away Thursday April 29, 2021 in his home surrounded by family.
Born January 22, 1958 in Dallas, Texas. Stephen was the son of Harless and Lucille Strawn. He married Annette Monier on May 30, 1981 in Dallas, Texas.
Bishop Stephen graduated from Bryan Adams High School, class of 1976. He attended Trinity Valley Community College, class of 1989. He then studied Psychology at the University of Texas at Tyler, class of 1990. He also studied Theology at Anglican School of Theology, class of 1993. He went to Logos House of Ministry where he received his Bachelor’s in Theology in 2009. Later receiving a master’s in Theology.
He worked in retail then moved in to drug and alcohol counseling at Sundown Ranch in Texas. Followed by working at Goodwill, testing and training in Tyler, Texas. Then moving on to Texas Rehabilitation Commission as a Vocational Rehabilitation in Athens, Texas. He was ordained to the Diaconate in January of 1992. He was then ordained into the Priesthood August 25, 1993. He was then consecrated Bishop October 13, 2007.
Survivors include his wife Annette Monier-Strawn of Quincy, Illinois; his sister Donna Chapman (Jim) of Plano, Texas and his brother Richard Strawn of Quincy, Illinois; his four daughters, Angelique Strawn of Rye, Texas, Christine Borovay of Quincy, Illinois, Tiffany Wheeler of Gun Barrel City, Texas, and Miranda Strawn of Quincy, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Jordan Borovay of Quincy, Illinois, Jon Anderson of Mesquite, Texas, Annika Wheeler of Gun Barrel City, Texas, Kaylee Borovay, Levi Borovay, and Ella Borovay of Quincy, Illinois, and Mia-Joann Graham of Quincy, Illinois; one great-aunt, Caroline Strawn of Butler, Indiana and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bishop Strawn was proceeded in death by his parents, Harless and Lucille Strawn.
A Requiem Mass will be held at St. John’s Cathedral at 3728 Payson Road, Quincy, Illinois, 62305, on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. by The Rt. Rev. George D. Langberg. Burial will be held at Post Oak Cemetery in Malakoff, Texas. Visitation will be held Monday afternoon from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Duker Haugh Funeral Home, Quincy, Illinois. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Anglican Church at 3728 Payson Road, Quincy, Illinois, 62305.

I cannot say too much how thankful I am for Bishop Strawn’s presence in my life. I feel so honored to have called him MY bishop. I was present at his consecration, welcomed him in my home, welcomed his counseling, and most of all cherish the times we spent together visiting our Sun Star Anglican Mission Church on the Pine Ridge Reservation. His support for this ministry was above and beyond the call. I know our friends on the Rez mourn his passing. Darrell and Dianna stopped in Omaha on their way home and shared their feelings about being with you in Quincy and their love of the Bishop. How I wish I could have been with you too. Annette, please know that all of us who knew and worked with Stephen were deeply sadden by his untimely death. While we know that he is now at his foreverHome with the Lord, looking down on us who are waiting, we are saddened by his loss. He was a servant counselor for Texas Rehab and provided many life giving services to his customers with disabilities, changing their lives and having a significant impact. So too did he have an impact on so many in his spiritual work in the Church. Peace to all of you and may he have eternal rest in the Lord.
Annette please accept my my heartfelt sympathy for your loss. From our days together in the (then) Diocese of the South West to our many trips and visits together in the TAC College of Bishops, +Stephen was always a man I respected and admired. I was very fortunate to have been his friend. I know you and the girls will miss him terribly, but he is smiling down on you from heaven where his heavenly Father has given him peace and rest from his labors. Such a wonderful person. He would come to our hotel to set up sleeping rooms for their Church events these past several years. Our thoughts and prayers to his family and parishioners.

Bishop Strawn was a good and holy man, and a courageous and stalwart bishop, he will be missed.

Stephen was a very good gentleman and example of what a friend should be.
