Roy “Sonny” D. Dorsey

Roy “Sonny” D. Dorsey age 73, of 3632 Queen Anne, Quincy died on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at his home. He was born March 6, 1937 in Quincy a son of Ray and Katherine (Polley) Dorsey. He married Patricia L. McCaughey on January 18, 1971 in Quincy and she survives.

Sonny was an engineer at Gardner Denver for 35 years prior to his retirement in 1999.
He was a graduate of Quincy High School and Quincy College.

Sonny was a longtime member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and currently of St. Anthony Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of South Side Boat Club and a member of the Elks. He was involved with Marriage Encounter and Cursillo.

Sonny enjoyed fine dining and was an amateur gourmet chef who loved cooking and entertaining. He had flower and vegetable gardens, generously sharing produce with family and neighbors. He swam three times a week and Sonny took five and six mile daily walks. He looked forward to his Wednesday get togethers with fellow Gardner Denver retirees.

Sonny loved his granddaughters, and made their trips in “Grandpa’s Truck” special for them.

In addition to his wife Pat, survivors include his children, a son, Shawn Dorsey and his wife Danielle, a daughter, Stephanie Belew and her husband William all of Quincy; four granddaughters, Veda and Abigail Belew and Alvera and Katherine Dorsey all of Quincy; two sisters, Margaret Gerri of St. Louis and Evelyn Reis of Quincy;
two sisters-in-law, Donna Schelich and Sharon (Greg) Holthaus of Quincy; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Cory.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at 9:45 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anthony Catholic Church by the Rev. Thomas Hagstrom. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a parish prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Dominic Grade School. www.dukerandhaugh.com
