Rosemary “Rosie” Lubbe

Rosemary “Rosie” Lubbe, age 82, of Quincy went to heaven on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 7:15 pm.
Rosie was born September 6, 1938, in Spring Valley, IL, the only daughter of Joseph and Lucille (Kujawa) Kalman. They moved to Quincy when she was 3. She married Norman Lubbe on May 19, 1962, in St Francis Solanus Catholic Church. They had just celebrated 59 years of marriage. He survives.

Rosie attended St Francis School and Notre Dame High School. She and Norm were active members of the former St. Dominic Catholic Church and later St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Rosie was the school secretary at St. Dominic School for over 25 years and volunteered her services for many of those years. During that time, Rosie developed lifelong friendships with the Dominican Sisters who taught at St. Dominic’s. Throughout Rosie’s health struggles the last three years, we are assured that the loving prayers and support of those Sisters as well as her family and friends provided her the courage and strength to continue living each day to its fullest.

In addition to her years of service at St. Dominic, Rosie spent many more years volunteering at St. Francis and Ladies of Charity and was a Dominican Associate for 30 years since the beginning of the program.

Rosie was the loving matriarch of her family. She was very devoted to and proud of her family and loved celebrating all their accomplishments, especially those of her grandchildren. She was their biggest cheerleader!

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children: John Lubbe and his wife Renee, Susan Kempen and her husband Andy, and Tim Lubbe and his wife Melissa; grandchildren: Caroline, Kate, Lauren, Joseph and Sarah Lubbe. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents and half-brother Eugene Kalman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Memorials are suggested to the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church or St. Dominic School.

Rosie was a fun lady and always so lively. I met her in 1974 while I was a student at then Quincy College. She let me enjoy the comfort of the Lubbe home to babysit during her weekly bowling evenings. Seems like she usually had Herb Alpert and the tijuana brass playing. More recently I had spoken and reminisce with her on the phone but never did get to see her face to face. Sorry for your loss Lubbe family. Hope you hold many happy memories of Rosie in your hearts. She was a joy. God bless, Catherine Rovey (Grueter)

Susie, John, Tim, and Norm. I am so sorry for your loss. Rosie was the life of every room she shared with others. I have so many great memories of stories and laughs we shared at Jim and Lou’s. She always made me smile when she pulled me into her office at St Dominics to “catch up on the latest,” when I stopped with QND kids. I will pray that God brings you the strength you need in the tough moments ahead and that HE blesses you with many great memories of your lives together. God Bless.

What a wonderful person….even as I was a kid she had a unique ability to make you feel like you were the most important she had ever talked to. What a good and faithful servant to her faith and the people she knew. I wish I could be there John.
