Rosella “Rosie” Mary Neisen

Rosella “Rosie” Mary Neisen age 89, of North Adams Home, Mendon died on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at 9:45 a.m. in the home. Rosie was born September 3, 1927 in Quincy, a daughter of Joseph and Laura (Jansen) Steinkamp. Of their 6 children, Rosie was the last surviving. She married Robert J. Neisen on November 29, 1947 in Quincy’s St. Francis Catholic Church. He preceded her in death March 13, 2015.

Rosie had worked as a cook at the former Our Lady of Angels Seminary, and retired at the age of 85 from her job as a cook at Baldwin School Cafeteria. She was a 1945 graduate of Notre Dame High School.
She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar Society there. For many years, she served as Tax Assessor for Gilmer Township and as a Democratic Election judge.
A favorite pastime was playing cards, especially 4-Point Pitch.

Rosie is survived by: her children, Joyce Merriman and her husband B.J. of Bettendorf, IA, Joanie Keil (Ross Scott) of East Moline, IL, Mary Wise and her husband Bill, Sharon Maas and her husband Jerry and Cindy Shinn and her husband Kent, all of Quincy, Roberta Parise and her husband Mark of Cary, IL, Keith Neisen and his wife Terri of Quincy, Jennifer Belmore and her husband Robert of Savannah, GA and Bobby Neisen (Shela Reichert) of Quincy; a daughter-in-law, Leatha Neisen, of Quincy;

Grandchildren, Tisha (Mike) Hardiek, Gary (Tara) Neisen, Jr., Jon (Trish) Neisen, Tina (Steve) Boyd, Eric (Tina) Smith, Kelley (Jeff) Elsie, Daina (James) Lewis, Lori (Chris) Zanger, Jessica (Andy) Hintz, Nicole (Matthew) O’Banion, Matthew (Lisa) Maas, Stephanie Maas, Melissa (Matthew) Bernier, Tyler Shinn, Sarah Parise, Benjamin & Chad Neisen, Dakota Neisen & Jesika (David) Roy; 25 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandson

Brothers-in-law and Sisters-in-law, Dorothy Steinkamp of Sequin, TX and Virginia Steiner of Quincy; Rosemary Metzger of Mendon, IL; Jimmy (Peggy) Neisen and Kenny (Susie) Neisen, all of Fowler, IL; Alvera (Daryl) Carroll of Carthage, IL and Pat (John) Becker of Kansas City, MO; Ruby Neisen of Philadelphia, MO and Sharon Neisen of Camp Point, IL. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Gary J. Neisen, and her five siblings, Roger, Herman, Edward and Clarence Steinkamp, and Leona Koetters.

The family extends their sincere thanks to the nurses and caregivers at North Adams Home for their kindness and wonderful care of Rosie.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church by Rev. Jeff Stone. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. MEMORIALS are suggested to Blessing Foundation for HOSPICE or to North Adams Home.
