Rosella Mary Hummel

Rosella Mary Hummel age 87, of rural Liberty died at Good Samaritan home on Saturday, December 25, 2021, at 9:01 AM.

Rosella was born in Quincy, Illinois on January 20, 1934 a daughter of Ralph and Angela (Weideman) Dietrich. She married Roger Lawrence Mast on February 14, 1953 at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Liberty, Illinois.

They had two children, Andrew Roger Mast and Bonnie Angela Mast (Cremer), before Roger Mast died June 9, 1958.

Rosella married Robert Benedict Hummel on November 14, 1959, at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Liberty, Illinois. They had two children, Joseph Robert Hummel and Michael Ralph Hummel. Robert Hummel died July 7, 2008.

Rosella was a farmers wife and worked supporting her family by helping on the farm and raising a large garden and a barnyard full of animals. She especially liked fixing farm raised meals of fried chicken and mashed potatoes with homemade rolls. Sunday’s meals were always soup from the garden’s produce and desserts of home made pies. Rosella was also a member and supporter of St. Brigid Church.

Survivors include her children: Andrew Mast of Liberty; Bonnie (Terry) Cremer of Canton, Illinois; Joe Hummel & Mike (Susan) Hummel of Liberty. Two granddaughters: Tiffany Cremer and her husband Matthew Knight of Seattle, Washington and Katelyn Hummel of Liberty.

Also surviving are siblings: Pauline Seals of Camp Point; Herb (Joyce) Dietrich of Camp Point, Melvin (Connie) Dietrich of Fowler, Illinois; a sister-in-law: Carlene Peters Dietrich of Quincy, and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews and other members of the Mast and Hummel families also survive.

Rosella was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, daughter-in-law Catherine ‘Linda’ Mast; her brothers Norbert Dietrich, Nicholas Dietrich, a sister Patricia Kaltenbach along with her husband Vernon, and a brother-in-law, Danny Seals. Also preceding her in death are numerous Dietrich, Mast, and Hummel relatives.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 31, 2021 at 10:00 AM in St. Brigid Catholic Church. Interment in St. Brigid Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021 from 4:00 util 7:00 at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Brigid Catholic Church.
