Roscoe P. “Rocky” Conover
Roscoe P. “Rocky” Conover, age 84, of Camp Point, IL, died on Monday, March 19, 2018 in the Timberpointe Healthcare Center. He was born on April 25, 1933 in Kansas City, MO the son of Sylvester and Martha (Kellogg) Durand. He married Jessie G. Gooding on April 10, 1955 in Golden, IL. She preceded him in death on May 6, 1996. Mr. Conover was a Heat Treat Operator for Gardner Denver from May of 1956 until his retirement.
Rocky was a very active member of the Liberty Christian Church and a Sunday School teacher. He also attended the Camp Point Christian Church.
He was a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the Liberty American Legion Post 640 and the Machinists Lodge 822 of Quincy. Rocky loved to play golf at Arrowhead Heights Golf Course. He also enjoyed fishing and playing cards. Rocky was a family man and passionate about keeping family tradition going.
Rocky is survived by:
ONE DAUGHTER: Judy (Jim) Mowen of Mendon.
A DAUGHTER- IN- LAW: Diana (Dennis) Kessler of Liberty.
GRANDCHILDREN: Ashley (Billy) Burgess, Alex Conover, Alysia (Travis) Conner; Adam (Rebecca) Mowen; and Jessie (Casey) Shoopman.
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: T Burgess, Landon Mowen and Tanner Conner
SIBLINGS: Virginia (Albert) Butler; Pat (Clell) Hauser; Sylvia Mershbrock; Hank (Mary) Durand; Frank (Donna) Durand; and Charlotte Inman.
A SPECIAL FRIEND: Shirley Gooding
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
In addition to his wife, Rocky was also preceded in death by his parents, a son Phillip Conover and a sister: Genevieve ‘Mae’ Durand.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 10:00 AM in the Liberty Christian Church. Interment in Quincy Memorial Park with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home in Quincy. Memorials may be made to the Liberty Christian Church.
Judy, so very sorry to hear about your dad. He always remembered me and said hi when I would see him at the Porky Pig day in Liberty.
