Ronald Paul Cudney
Ronald Paul Cudney, 85, of Quincy died Friday, December 11, 2020 at his home. He was born September 21, 1935 in Quincy to Paul and Josephine (Schullian) Cudney. He married Dorothy Hoffman on April 30, 1960 at Saint Francis Catholic Church in Quincy. This past April the couple celebrated their 60th anniversary.
Ron served in the military from 1954 to 1956 in the Medical Corps as a part of the European Occupation Forces. He then went on to graduate from Quincy College in 1961. Ron worked in the paper distribution industry for 33 years, retiring in 1994 as President of Irwin Paper Company.
Ron moved with his family to Jacksonville, Illinois in 1961 where he was an active member of Our Savior Catholic Church. During that time, he was active in the community serving as Our Savior Grade School Board President, YMCA Executive Board Member, YMCA Flag Football Coordinator, and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
In 1978, Ron moved with his family back to Quincy where he was an active member of Saint Peters Catholic Church. He was also active in the business community, serving as an officer with the Chamber of Commerce and as Vice President of the Great River Economic Development Foundation.
Ron and his wife wintered in Arizona for the past 25 years and enjoyed frequent visits to their children in Georgia, Missouri, Colorado, and Arkansas. They also enjoyed annual family vacations to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Ron was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Quincy Country Club.
Ron is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and their four children: Terri (Tim) Shull of Peachtree City, GA, Kent (Chriss) Cudney of Beaufort, MO, Donna (Dan) Chamberlain of Foxfield, CO and Susan (Kevin) Mackenzie of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, as well as, two brothers Dr. Robert (Mary) Cudney and Roger (Meribeth) Cudney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the Church of St. Peter by Msgr. Leo Enlow. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery by American Legion Post #37 and the Illinois National Guard Honor Detail. Visitation will be held on Friday at the Church of St. Peter from 1:00 until the time of the mass at 2:00. Memorials may be made to the Ron & Dorothy Cudney Scholarship Fund at Quincy Notre Dame. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Please know you are not alone in your loss albeit yours is extremely more difficult but please know you are surrounded by people who are praying for you and will miss Ron immensely. Friendly. Dorothy, I was so sad to read of Ron’s passing. When I was out walking the dog down Wilmar Dr, I always enjoyed stopping to visit with you and Ron. Although I don’t live to Quincy any longer, I hold great memories of the nice people
