Ronald Eugene Harness

Ronald Eugene Harness, age 77, of Ursa, passed away unexpectedly on May 10, 2015. Ronnie was born on April 1, 1938 in Quincy, IL – the son of Elvin and Lois (Mitchell) Harness. He married Ann Windoffer Cook in September of 1993. She survives.

He was a graduate of Unity High School in Mendon. After High School, he joined the USMC. Upon discharge he returned to Quincy. In 1961, he married and had five children. In September 1993, he married Ann, the love of his life and lovingly welcomed her four children into his life. Ronnie worked at Gem City Ready Mix in Quincy for many years. From there he went to work as a certified pipeline welder. He eventually retired in 2003 from J.M. Huber in Quincy. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the American Veteran’s Association, and a proud lifetime member of the NRA. Ronnie’s favorite past times and hobbies included: flower gardening, woodworking, hunting and fishing, and being an avid reader. He particularly enjoyed working on his most prized possession, his ’49 Ford Convertible.

In addition to his wife, Ann, he is also survived by his brother, Jim (Donna) Harness of Warsaw.

His nine children: Kevin Harness of Corpus Christi, TX; Kim (Dennis) Harper of Baton Rouge, LA; Connie Harness of Quincy; Cathy (John) Garcia of San Antonio, TX; Ronald “Kent” (Rebecca) Harness of Austin, TX; Kenny (Tracey) Cook of Ursa; Connie (Mel) Wittler of Lorraine; Allen Cook of Mendon; Jenny Cook also of Mendon.

His eighteen grandchildren: Aaron, Evan and Connor Harper; Jessica (Ryan) Harness-Shaughnessy; Amanda (Mark) Garcia-Gonzales, Veronica, Jake and Jennifer Garcia; Nathan and Ethan Harness; Raymond (Leann) and Kellie (Kevin) Cook; Stevie (Chris) Ensminger, Lacie (Steven) Ensminger and Lee (Abby) Wittler; Waylon and Jacob Cook and Nicholas (Paris) Lauer.

His four great-grandchildren: Olivia, Joseph, Jonah and Amelia.

Ronnie is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and his in-laws, Paul and Virginia Windoffer.

Ronnie was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his family and friends and would never turn down anyone in need. Ronnie worked hard all his life and always gave one-hundred percent in all he did. His legacy lives on in the strong values and work ethic that he instilled in his family.

He was greatly admired and thought of as a “hero” and “best friend” by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was truly loved by the Windoffer family. Ronnie was a great man and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his buddy “Auggie the doggy.”

The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and wishes. The family would also like to thank all those who helped in the search to bring him home. Rest in peace, our dear Ronnie.
