Ronald C. “Ron” Peters, age 74, of 626 Pawn Avenue, died on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 in the Illinois Veterans Home. He was born on January 2, 1942 in Quincy, IL the son of Carl & Ethel (Heckle) Peters. He went to St. Mary Grade School and graduated from Quincy Notre Dame High School. He married Ann Huefner on August 7, 1965 in Franklin, PA. She survives. Ron served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Church. He was a Eucharistic Minister at the church and a member of the ‘Minute Men’ of the parish. He was also a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Ron was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Ron enjoyed traveling with his wife, family, and friends. He became an avid sports enthusiast due to attending all of his grandchildren’s sporting events. In his younger days, he enjoyed trap shooting with his friends from ‘Ma Belle’. Ron fought a valiant battle against the disease of Alzheimers. He took on this challenge with great dignity, never once complaining about how this disease took over his life. He remained strong through the support of his family, friends, and faith.

IN addition to his wife Ann, he is also survived by:
THREE CHILDREN: Christine Reichert and her husband Joseph of Quincy; Michael Peters and his wife Kathy of Phoenix, AZ; and Jeffrey Peters and his wife Louise of Quincy.
SEVEN GRANDCHILDREN: 1st Lt. Zachary Reichert and his wife Laura; Nicholas Reichert; Jessica Smith; Joshua Peters; Matthew Peters, Ashley Peters and Addison Peters.
ONE GREAT-GRANDCHILD: Kyren Smith.
A BROTHER: Dale Peters and his wife Alice.
Along with several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 12:00 noon in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church from 10:00 AM until the time of the services. Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament School or to the Illinois Veterans Home Adopt a Chair Fund. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
