Ronald A. Wiewel
Ronald “Ronnie” A. Wiewel, age 78, of Fowler, died on Friday, January 21, 2022 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on June 21, 1943 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Albert & Millie (McCleary) Wiewel. He married Donna Davis on October 24, 1970. She survives. Ronnie proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Ronnie worked construction for years in the Quincy area and was a heavy equipment operator for Sparks and Wiewel. He later retired as a road maintainer from the State of Illinois (IDOT).
Ronnie never knew a stranger. He always managed to come across a familiar face, quickly striking up a conversation. He spent many wonderful years playing softball and volleyball, as well as pitching horseshoes and bowling. Attending construction shows with close friends brought him much pleasure. He looked forward to meeting once a month with the “state guys” for breakfast and his Guard unit for dinner. Later, after his retirement, Ronnie enjoyed going on bus trips with Donna and simply spending time together. He was very proud of having his centennial farm; teaching his children and grandchildren how to keep the farm the way his dad would’ve kept it.
Above all, Ronnie’s family was always most important to him. His favorite moments were spent being Papa to his pride and joy, his grandchildren. He could always be found offering bulldozer, golf cart, Gator, or tractor rides throughout the farm. He enjoyed making trails, going on adventures, and sharing his knowledge of all things tool and machine related. He looked forward to Oreo parties with the grandkids, sharing countless glasses of milk and “Papa cookies” over the years. Nothing made Ronnie smile more than seeing his grandchildren walk through the door and hearing them call out “Papa”.
In addition to his wife, Ronnie is also survived by:
TWO CHILDREN: Stacy Austin (Todd) of Lorton, VA and Stephen Wiewel (Amy) of Quincy.
GRANDCHILDREN: Will, Elizabeth, Julianna, Sarah and Todd Austin and Abram, Thomas, Quinn, and Mack Wiewel.
ONE SIBLING: Karen Woodworth
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law; brother-in-law.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s or to Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

I just found out of Ron’s passing. So sorry. Ron and I met at St. Joseph’s church. He was always civil and easy to talk to. I have never had a time I was not happy to see him. He will be missed by all. Bill Welsh

Having known Ronnie and family long before pre grade school, going thru Fowler Grade School and Unity High School together. I have fond memories and shared experiences over the years. We are very sorry and want to send our sincere sympathy to Donna & family
To Ronnie’s family, I am so sorry to hear about his death. I always remembered him as one the 7 kids who went through all 12 years of school together at Fowler and Unity Hi. May he rest in peace.

Met Ronnie at Gardner-Denver in1979 and never met a nicer man. He was awesome showing a 19 year old how to be a better person. Always gave me a shout later in life wondering how things were going. One of a kind! Great Guy
