Roger Paul Hummel
Roger Paul Hummel
Roger Paul Hummel, 60, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (December 17, 2024) in his home on the family farm. Roger was born June 29th, 1964 in Quincy, Illinois as the youngest child of Robert C. and Rita M. (Dietrich) Hummel.
Roger attended school at Cheerful Home in Quincy and was a graduate of Quincy Public Schools Special Education Program. After graduating, Roger worked on the family farm doing all the things he loved like driving the tractor, mowing grass on the riding lawn mower, and especially giving rides on his John Deere Gator. The family could always count on Roger taking his Gator down to bring the mail up their long lane. Roger made rugs and placemats with some of his friends on the looms at a local Quincy Church. He enjoyed working at the local water bottling plant. In his younger years, Roger loved riding along on the water routes. He was a “numbers” man; he kept track of how many loads of water were hauled or how many bushels of corn or soybeans were harvested. His compliment would be, “Not too bad, not too bad!” Roger spent many enjoyable years working at and attending Transitions of Western Illinois in Quincy, IL.
Roger was one of the best fans at the sporting events and other activities of his nieces and nephews at Payson Seymour, Quincy Notre Dame, and Quincy High School. Roger loved his country music and could often be found in his room strumming his guitar to a George Strait song. Roger was an avid dancer and loved dancing with all the ladies as well as attending his nieces’ dance recitals. He enjoyed watching his favorites on TV, especially John Wayne cowboy movies and the Dallas Cowboys. For many years he participated in Special Olympics and enjoyed bowling with his friends every Saturday. Roger found enjoyment in all the family activities from playing UNO with the adults to rolling a ball back and forth with the little ones. In his later years, Roger had his own “Personal Assistant” Sheila, and together they enjoyed many outings.
Roger truly touched every single member of his family. He was always surrounded by his loving family and his love for them carried through all the generations from his grandmothers down to his great-great-nephews. He made their world a better place and made them better people too. Roger didn’t stop with family; he never knew a stranger and always treated all people equally with kindness. Roger was always good for a hug and really loved group hugs. He was a beacon of light and love. To know him was to love him.
Roger is survived by seven siblings: Tom (Alice) Hummel of Quincy, their children, Brian (Nikki) Hummel of Orlando, FL, Brian’s children Jonah and Lydia, Brad (Katie) Hummel of Quincy, Brad’s children Zoey and William, Zoey’s child Holden, and Brent (Terri) Hummel of Bucyrus, MO, Brent’s children Mary and Christopher; Jim (Jackie) Hummel of Liberty, their son, John (Jamie Riley) Hummel of Liberty, John’s children Jordan and Kaitlyn, and Jim’s grandchildren, Dakota (DJ) Goehl, Dallas Hummel and his child Bennett, Deanna Hummel and her child Weston, all of Liberty; Dee (Dennis) Norton of Quincy, their child Lisa Norton of Quincy; Dennis (Pat) Hummel of Liberty, their children Tony (Kelley) Hummel of Quincy, Tony’s children Bryer and Isabella, Curtis (Lynn) Hummel of Payson, Curtis’s children Chloie, Natalie, and Lane; Mike (Kay) Hummel of Payson, their children Chad (Camissa) Hummel of Quincy, Chad’s children Ella and Lauren, Shelley (Kurt) Flesner of Quincy, Shelley’s children Garrett and Gavin, and Kaleena (Logan) Gentry of Payson, Kaleena’s children Myers and Sloane; Chuck (Eva) Hummel of Rowlett, TX, their children Adrian (Kayla) Hummel of Rockwall, TX, Adrian’s children Finley, Asher, and Nora, and Evan (Meredith) Hummel of Rowlett, TX, Evan’s children Everett and Jasper; Cindy (Dennis) Huber of Liberty, their children, Melissa (Ryan) Straley of Plainville, Melissa’s children Harrison and Nicholas, and Grant (Kayla) Huber of Quincy, and Grant’s child Maverick. I am sorry to hear about this Hummel family! I truly enjoyed working and helping Roger at Quincy family foot care. He had the biggest smile on his face, especially when he was wearing his cowboy hat. God gained an angel.
So sorry to hear of Roger’s passing. Prayers for peace and comfort.
