Roger Kent Malaney

Roger Kent Malaney, age 67, of Quincy, passed away in his home on Thursday evening, August 18, 2016 surrounded by his family. Roger was born on December 6, 1948 in Quincy, the son of Michael and Oreta (Courrier) Malaney. Roger married Paula Kay Ennis of Quincy on June 20, 1969. Paula preceded him in death on August 3, 1987. Roger married Sharon Aschemann Lightle on July 21, 1990. She survives.

Roger retired from Harris Corporation in 2009 after over 37 years as a Service Parts Specialist. After serving Active Duty in Vietnam, he was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army with the rank of SP5. Accompanied by his son, Roger was awarded the privilege of traveling to Washington, DC with the Great River Honor Flight in August of 2015. Roger treasured family and adored his grandchildren, who always brought him great joy. He remained very active and enjoyed Country Western dancing with his many beloved friends. He often went to the movies with family and liked to frequent his nearby Hy-Vee Store.

IN addition to his wife, he is also survived by:
FIVE CHILDREN: Shawn (Sarah) Malaney and Jennifer Malaney all of Quincy; Nicole (Andy) Jackson of Colchester, Illinois, Jenifer Lightle and Julie Lightle, both of Quincy.
FOUR GRANDCHILDREN: Zachary Anderson, Cole Wagy, Ian Malaney, and Kaylee Jackson.
A BROTHER: Donald J. Malaney and his wife Barbara
A SISTER: Joyce Abell
A SISTER-IN-LAW, Virginia Malaney
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

IN addition to his first wife, Roger is also preceded in death by: his parents, and a brother Michael Malaney.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 12:00 noon in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday morning from 11:00 AM until the time of the services. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America or to the Blessing Cancer Center. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    Sharon and family I am so sorry for your loss. I am glad I had the opportunity to talk with Roger recently. He was such a good person and I know his family and friends will surely miss him. He is with the Lord now and will suffer no more. Love and prayers to you all.

    I have had the privilege of knowing you all almost my entire life!!!! I hate cancer and hate that it has effected you all so much. My prayers and thoughts are with you and I thank you for all the times I was able to capture his amazing smile and his love for sweet Kaylee. Nicole, I am always here if you need anything. Wish I could come to visitation but I love 3 hours away now. Please know my heart aches for you all and I will be thinking of you so much!!
