Robley Dean Evans

Robley Dean Evans, age 90, of the Illinois Veterans Home, Quincy, formerly of 2421 Maine Street, Quincy, died on Monday, January 11, 2010 in the Home. He was born on September 19, 1919 in Casey, Illinois, a son of Ernest and Molly (Cooper) Evans.

Robley served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II as Staff Sergeant where he trained aircraft turret gunner’s while stationed at Tyndall Field in Florida. He was named after the Admiral of the “Great White Fleet” who lead sixteen U.S. Navy ships of the Atlantic Fleet around the globe, on the order of President Roosevelt.

He worked on the Wabash Railroad and for the Eli Lilly & Company in Indianapolis, IN. He made transistor glass in Los Angeles, CA for Texas Instruments. He owned and operated Evans Jewelers in Sullivan, IL, and in Mattoon, IL. Robley repaired watches and jewelry from his shop in Key Rexall Drugs in Quincy for 39 years, as well as jewelry repair for Zales, Gordon’s, Bergner’s, and Fisher’s Jewelry during the 80’s & early 90’s.

Survivors include:
THREE SONS: Phillip Evans of Jacksonville, FL, Curtis Evans of Bethalto, IL, and Trent Evans of Quincy, IL;

Robley was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Glen Evans, and two sisters, Dana Evans, & Helen Loomis.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in All Faith’s Chapel at the Illinois Veterans Home. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday morning from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at All Faith’s Chapel. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
