Roberta K. Wienhoff
Roberta K. Wienhoff, age 66, of 1205 Daniel CT, died on Sunday, August 2, 2015 in Blessing Hospital. She was born on October 6, 1948 in St. Louis, MO the daughter of Emmett & Peggy (Demsey) Byrd. She married Thomas Wienhoff on June 14, 1969 in St. Louis, MO. He survives.
Roberta was a RN starting at the former St. Mary Hospital and most recently working at Hannibal Regional Hospital. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Roberta was a Master Gardener. Her gardens have been on several garden tours over the years. She was deeply involved in the revitalization of the Illinois Veterans Home Memorial Garden.
She was an avid sports fan, but especially loved the St. Louis Cardinals and tennis. Some of our best memories were of playing tennis and swimming at Sheridan Swim Club. She also enjoyed coaching CYO girl’s volleyball for over 10 years, guiding several teams to first place in the league.
She was very proud of her nursing career. She was named RN of the Year after St Mary’s and Blessing Hospital merged. She earned her RN degree from DePaul School of Nursing, and later earning her BSN degree from Hannibal LaGrange College. She went on to teach in the nursing program at Hannibal LaGrange College.
She went on a Medical Mission trip to Haiti. This was a wakeup call for her to see the poverty that these people are forced to endure each day. Yet how proud and beautiful the people are. She has been involved with this group since then.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her spirit and passion for life.
IN addition to her husband, she is also survived by:
TWO DAUGHTERS: Jenny Shalberg and her husband Thomas of Osage Beach, MO; and Melisa McDougall of Tampa, Fl
THREE SISTERS: Jean Rogenhofer; Marge Dueing; and Marcie Denzin and her husband Roger.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Albert Byrd and Roberta’s twin brother: Robert Byrd.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 2:00 PM in Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church from 12:00 noon until the time of the services. Memorials may be made to the Haiti Mission of Blessed Sacrament Parish. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Roberta and I met through the Uterine discussion Board on the ACS pages. She was always a great comfort and had sound advise to give all us ladies. She and I shared a lot through this site. She will be missed. Thanks for all the memories and be a peace in the best garden around.
To Roberta’s family, she was a very special woman and friend to everyone at the American Cancer Society’s chat room.
She was so kind with her knowledge and wisdom and will forever by the picture of her beautiful spray of flowers behind her.
We all hope that while we are on this earth we somehow make a difference. It is obvious of her desire to help those in Haiti, but closer to home, she helped many women in this world. She has touched many lives along her journey.
Please find peace in knowing she will be remembered by many and is thought of fondly.

I met Ro through the Uterine Cancer group on CSN Cancer in 2013. She reached out to me and shared her journey with UPSC (which we shared) with me. Over the last two years she has been open, encouraging, inspirational and comforting. She provided calm, caring advice to many of us newbies and often wrote about the importance of our caregivers and the journeys our families were on too. She taught me that I needed to live fully with my cancer and not in spite of it. I am so sorry for your loss of a remarkable woman. I hope your memories bring you comfort and that her gorgeous gardens thrive for years to come. Rest in peace my friend.

Ro, as I knew her, was a strong, caring woman who always made time for those in need of her vast knowledge & experience. She will be greatly missed by many of us who were blessed by knowing her. We have lost a treasure & I cannot imagine the hole in the hearts of her family. May God carry you all thru this difficult time…Ro is finally at peace!
