Robert Whelan

Robert Benedict “Bob” Whelan, age 73, of Quincy, died at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2019 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on May 12, 1946 in Quincy, the son of Benedict and Dolores Eleanor (Leisen) Whelan. Robert married Mary Jane Nutt on May 12, 1973 in Vandalia, MO. She survives.

From this union, three children: Mary Nicole “Nikki” Whelan of Quincy, Benedict Joseph (Ben) Whelan (Crystal) of Camp Point and Kimberly Sue (Kim) Whelan (Ken Zieres) of Quincy; also surviving are four grandchildren: Joseph Lee Whelan, Olivia Marie Zieres of Quincy, Katelyn Marie and Andrew Robert Whelan of Camp Point; two step-grandchildren: Gabriele Zieres of Quincy and Benjamin Lee Michelson of CA. Numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Frank (Dick)Whelan, one brother-in-law, one sister-in-law, one niece and one nephew.

Mr. Whelan was an Air Force veteran, who served during Vietnam and will be given a military burial. No visitation or funeral will be held per his wishes. He will be cremated and interment in Sunset Cemetery on November 6, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in a private ceremony.

    Kimmy, I am so sorry to hear of your father’s passing. I pray you find comfort through these next days, in warm memories of him, and the closeness of friends and family. May the Holy Spirit, Himself, embrace you and give you the freedom to grieve and also find joy. Love you bunches!
