Robert P. Gehring

Robert P. Gehring age 88, of 3421 West Lyn Mar Drive, Quincy, IL died on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 2:47 a.m. at Blessing Hospital. Robert was born October 16, 1925 in Quincy a son of Paul and Helen (Rees) Gehring. Robert first married Sallie Agnes Six, and together they had their six children. He later married Sally Shroyer and she preceded him death. Years ago he worked as a financial advisor, he then worked until his retirement at Moorman Manufacturing as a maintenance supervisor. Robert attended Gem City Business Business College.

He served his county in the U.S. Navy stationed in the South Pacific during World War II.
Robert was a member of Twin Oaks, and the South Side and North Side Boat Clubs. He was an outdoorsman who liked fishing, boating and camping.

Survivors include his six children, Tom (Debi) Gehring of Quincy; Ann Gehring Turner of Mendon; Rita (Victor) Kerr of Warsaw, IL; Paul Gehring of Wasilla, AK; Mary (Mike) Power of Quincy and Martha Gehring of Tampa, FL. A brother, Russell Gehring of Orlando, FL and a sister Janet (“Dutch”) Coe of Springfield, IL; 12 grandchildren, Quentin (Laura) Gehring; Blake and Tim Gehring; Crystal (Dave) Stoltz; James (Paula) Turner and Nick Turner; Olivia (Logan) White and Nathaniel Kerr; Mandy and April Gehring; Brad (Charlena) Silman; Patrick (Tama) Silman and Joshua Miller. Nine great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren and 1 step-great-great grandchild, along with nieces and nephews also survive.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a sister, Marilyn Willson.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Sunset Cemetery by Rev. Rodney Bakker. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #37 and the Illinois National Guard Military Funeral Detail. Visitation will be held at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home on Thursday morning from 10:00 until 10:45 AM. Memorials are suggested to Fishing for Freedom, c/o Holly Cain, 532 Gardner Expressway, Quincy, IL 62301. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
