Robert L. “Whisper” Schmitt, Sr., age 82, of 2515 Dennis DR., died on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 8:20 AM in his home. He was born on July 18, 1927 in Quincy, the son of Robert Leo & Mildred (Schaeffer) Schmitt. Robert attended St. Mary School. Robert married Wilma Bernice Wood on February 19, 1944. She preceded him in death on March 12, 1999. Mr. Schmitt was of the Catholic Faith. He retired from Electric Wheel/Firestone after 32 years of service. His greatest enjoyment was the time he spent with his family and friends.

Robert is survived by:
TWO CHILDREN: Jerry Schmitt of Quincy and Shirley Moore and her husband Mike also of Quincy.
THREE GRANDCHILDREN: Michelle Farwell of Quincy, Tina Powell and her husband Ben of Quincy and Stacy Schmitt of Canton, MO.
EIGHT GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Nicole Pinkham; Amber and LAcey Farwell; Riley Farwell; Mackenzie Cooksey; Jared Cooksey; Chelsie Reaver and Logan Schmitt.
HIS LOVING COMPANION: Elizabeth Smith
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to his wife, Robert was also preceded in death by his parents, two sons: Anthony Schmitt in infancy and Robert L. Schmitt, Jr. and two sisters: Dorothy Toohey and Betty Huechteman.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by Father Roy Bauer. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the services. Memorials may be made to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
