Robert Joseph “Bob” Winking of 1035 North 18th Street in Quincy, died on July 17, 2015 at 7:20 a.m.
He was born on March 22, 1935 in Quincy. He was the son of Robert H. and Marie (Altgilbers) Winking. He is survived by his wife Judith A. (Brueggeman) Winking, who he married on May 5, 1962 in St. Francis Catholic Church.

Mr. Winking graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1953 and went on to serve in the United States Air Force, spending a year in Korea. Following his service, he worked for the United States Post Office for over 30 years, retiring in 1996. He recommended retirement highly to anyone able.
His favorite pastime was as an avid fan for his grandchildren’s sports and playing a good round of golf. Bob, or as many called him “Chick”, was a great joy to be around and was famous for his “just one more” attitude at Chick-A-Bob’s.

In addition to his wife, Judy, Bob is survived by his children, David (Kelly) Winking of Chesterfield, MO, Becky (Kevin) Wolf, Jennifer (Tim Schieferdecker) Winking, Sherri (Mark) Foley, and Corey (Angela) Winking, all of Quincy, IL.

FOURTEEN GRANDCHILDREN: Ryan and Kayla Winking; Rebecca, Katelyn and Carly Wolf; Wade and Jack Schieferdecker; Shannon, Cassidy, McKenzie and Dylan Foley; Ava, Lila and Sylvia Winking. He is survived by a sister, Mary Keane and a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Diane Winking, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Joseph, in infancy; a brother in infancy; a brother-in-law, Pat Keane; a sister-in-law, Janet Peters; a brother-in-law, Jerry Brueggeman; and a nephew, Mike Keane.

The Winking family wishes to thank Dr. Noble, the hospice staff especially Casey and Shannon, and the dedicated staff of the Illinois Veterans Home for their care and support. Most of all we wish to thank all of Chick’s friends who came out for his 80th birthday and who visited and supported him throughout his illness.

    Judy and Kids,
I was devastated to hear this news. Bob was a great friend to all, and more important, an even better husband, father, and grandfather. I have the utmost respect for your family, as you know. The dedication you have to each other and your education is unmatched. I will pray the HE gives you the strength you need in the days ahead and that HE fills your hearts and mind with only the good memories of Bob. He will be missed. God Bless

    Lonny

I am a classmate of Bob’s from Quincy Notre Dame ’53. I have many wonderful memories of Bob at Notre Dame, at our class reunions, and three years ago at the State Volley Ball tournament in Bloomington. I was there to cheer for St. Teresa High School, Decatur and then also cheered for my Alma Mater. Ed and Mary Hummert pointed out Bob who was closer to the court so I visited with him for a short time. He was cheering loudly for his grandaughters as well as the whole team. It was great to see him, my last time I always appreciated his wonderful smile and good humor. He was a very good Catholic Christian, very thoughtful and kind, understanding and encouraging, a very good person. I believe he is celebrating his new life with God and praying for his family, friends and all. May he experience the fullness of life with God forever.
