Robert J. Neisen

Robert J. Neisen, age 90, of St. Vincent’s Home, formerly of Fowler, IL, died on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 in the home. He was born on March 3, 1925 in Fowler, IL, the son of Joseph & Mildred (Wiewel) Neisen. He married Rosella Mary Steinkamp on November 29, 1947 in St. Francis Catholic Church. She survives.

Robert was a lifelong farmer. He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he belonged to the Holy Name Society and was on the Cemetery Board. He was a Gilmer Twp. Trustee for forty-four years and a Democratic Precinct Committeeman for many years.

Mr. Neisen enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening, his antique tractors, playing cards and his dogs, which were all named “Cutie”.

In addition to his wife, Rosella, he is survived by: his children, Joyce Merriman and her husband B.J. of Bettendorf, IA, Joanie Keil (Ross Scott) of East Moline, IL, Mary Wise and her husband Bill, Sharon Maas and her husband Jerry and Cindy Shinn and her husband Kent, all of Quincy, Roberta Parise and her husband Mark of Cary, IL, Keith Neisen and his wife Terri of Quincy, Jennifer Belmore and her husband Robert of Savannah, GA and Bobby Neisen (Shela Reichert) of Quincy;
a daughter-in-law, Leatha Neisen, of Quincy; Grandchildren, Tisha (Mike) Hardiek, Gary (Tara) Neisen, Jr., Jon (Trish) Neisen, Tina (Steve) Boyd, Eric (Tina) Smith, Kelley (Jeff) Elsie, Daina Lewis, Lori (Chris) Zanger, Jessica (Andy) Hintz, Nicole (Matthew) O’Banion, Matthew Maas (fiancee’ Lisa Freiburg), Stephanie Maas, Melissa (Matthew) Bernier, Tyler Shinn, Sarah Parise, Benjamin & Chad Neisen, Dakota Neisen & Jesika (David) Roy; 20 Great-Grandchildren; Brothers, Jimmy (Peggy) Neisen and Kenny (Susie) Neisen, all of Fowler, IL; Sisters, Rosemary Metzger of Mendon, IL, Alvera (Daryl) Carroll of Carthage, IL and Pat (John) Becker of Kansas City, MO; brother and sisters-in-law, Ruby Neisen of Philadelphia, MO and Sharon Neisen of Camp Point, IL. Dorothy & Clarence Steinkamp and Virginia Sterling. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Gary J. Neisen, brothers, Orville, Earl, Norbert, Don Neisen & Arthur Neisen in infancy; and a sister Alberta Guthrie.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church by Rev. Jeff Stone. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh. Memorials may be made to Blessing Foundation for Hospice, St. Joseph Cemetery Fund or St. Vincent’s Home Activities Fund.

    So sorry to hear that your Dad passed away. He was always such a good neighbor to Mom and Dad. He would stop by and talk to them. Sending prayer.

    Bobby and Keith, We are so sorry to hear about your father’s passing. We have good memories of talking with him at the picnic and at his farm. We were fortunate to have had you both as our neighbors for many years. Thinking of you and hoping you find peace in the days to come.
