Robert J. “Bob” Hugenberg
Robert J. “Bob” Hugenberg, age 74, of 1106 East 1500th Street, Quincy, IL passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2013 in Good Samaritan Home. He was born on April 9, 1938 in Quincy, the son of Benjamin F. & Florence C. (Blaesing) Hugenberg. He married Theresa “Rosie” O’Brien on January 30, 1960 in Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ewing, MO. She survives.
Mr. Hugenberg served in the United States Army and Reserves. He belonged to the WCU and Farm Bureau.
He was a lifelong member of the Adams County community and was very proud of his local contributions. His primary trade was in construction, specifically cement finishing. He worked for Rose Construction and Kuhlman Construction in Quincy, IL and was a member of the local union 189. He worked on many jobsites: St. Mary’s Hospital, Quincy College, Quincy Herald Whig, Gardner Denver, Sheridan Swim Club and Jack’s to name a few.
As Robert’s family grew he continued in construction and also became more actively engaged in farming with his sons. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed life and loved to share stories. He was very proud of his family and often shared the story of how mom managed to get all nine kids on the school bus at one time. Family gatherings at home were very special to Robert and he will always be with his family in spirit.
He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Rosie, and a loving father to NINE CHILDREN: Dan Hugenberg and his wife Rose Ann of Liberty, IL, Debbie O’Malley and her husband Joe of Omaha, NE, Jim Hugenberg and Ron Hugenberg, both of Quincy, IL, John Hugenberg and his wife Lisa of Springfield, MO, Carl Hugenberg of Quincy, Roger Hugenberg and his wife Kim of Canton, MO, Dennis Hugenberg of Payson, IL and Rich Hugenberg and his fiancee Kara Scott of Clayton, IL; loving grandfather to FOURTEEN GRANDCHILDREN, Ben & Katie Hugenberg of Liberty, IL, Elizabeth & Lauren O’Malley of Omaha, NE, Lucas & Andrew Hugenberg of Quincy, Alexis (Michael) Gilmore, Nicholas & Austin Hugenberg of Springfield, MO, Taylor Garkie & Laken Hugenberg of Canton, MO and Samantha, Dillon & Tori Hugenberg of Payson, IL; A BROTHER, Donald Hugenberg and his wife Sheila of Quincy; A SISTER, Delores Obert and her husband LeRoy of Quincy. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant grandson, Robert Alan Hugenberg and a brother Kenneth Hugenberg.
The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Good Samaritan Home, Blessing Hospital, Dr. Louis Kim, MD and nurses Joann & Lois, Dr. Wissam Derian, MD and Dr. Elie Chbeir for their wonderful care of dad.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 9:45 a.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.

I am truly sorry to hear of Uncle Bobby’s passing. What fond memories I have growing up in my early years right down the road from him. Always a smile and a great conversation. .
