Robert Francis (Frank) Hays, 84, died Saturday, October 15, 2016 surrounded by his family after celebrating the traditional Hays birth month. Frank was born October 28, 1931, in Hannibal, MO a son of Charles and Maria Hagan Hays. He married Mary Lou Lindhorst on September 8, 1952, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Monroe City, MO. She survives.

Frank was a graduate of Holy Rosary High School and he attended Quincy College.
Frank began his career as a Prudential Insurance Company agent. In 1973 he became a licensed real estate salesman in Illinois, earning his Illinois Broker’s license in 1977, and his Missouri Broker’s license in 1979. He was a graduate of the Realtors Institute of Illinois, and completed several advanced courses in real estate appraising at Western Illinois University. Most recently, he was a partner with Awerkamp & Hays Century 21Real Estate from where he retired.

Before retiring, Frank was a member of the Quincy Board of Realtors, serving on every outstanding committee, as well as Vice President, President, and earning the Realtor of the year award. He was a past member of the Illinois and National Realtor Associations; was chairman of the Realtors’ Political Action Committee; and former Chairman of the Fight for Life Cancer Drive.
Active in the Quincy community, Frank was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Spring Lake Country Club, Quincy Boat Club, Mart Heinen Club, Exchange Club, and the Elks Lodge. He was Uptown Quincy President and a member of the Chamber of Commerce, serving on its Board of Directors. Frank was one of the original members of the Civic Center Authority and a past Director of the Exchange Club. In addition, he and Mary Lou were members of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Frank was most proud of his family. He enjoyed their memorable times together at his river camp in the East Chute and at Spring Lake. The past several years he was particularly fond of phone calls and visits from family and friends.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, are his children: Diane (Fred) Weber, Bob (Judy) Hays, Karla (Francis) Richmond, Lisa (Mike) Irvine, and Sharon (Steve) Vahlkamp; grandchildren: Mike (Tiffany) Irvine, Mandy (Joel) Swisher, Jason (Nicole) Weber, Robbie (Kathy) Marold, Laura (Joe) Rheinecker, Ryan Marold, and Anna Vahlkamp; and great-grandchildren: Henry Weber, Elizabeth Marold, Jackson Rheinecker, and Mia Grace Smith. Numerous other family members also survive.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gene Hays; and a sister, Vivian Jugan.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by Monsignor Michael Kuse. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh. Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or to Quincy Notre Dame High School.
