Robert F. Shabel
Robert F. Shabel, age 73, of Quincy, died on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 in Blessing Hospital. He was born June 1, 1944 in Maywood, IL, the son of Marvin and Elizabeth (Grill) Shabel.
Robert owned a lawn mower/small engine repair shop. He served in the US army during the Vietnam War. Robert was a member of the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed the Bible study and going to church. Robert loved his many friends and could make them laugh by sharing his jokes. He loved to work on his motorbike and gardening.
Robert is survived by two children: Brenda Shabel and Brian Shabel; grandchildren: Isabella, Angel, Antonio and Jameson nieces: Lorie Nevill; nephews: Mark Sanchez, Daniel Sanchez, great-niece, Samantha Rednouv; great-nephews, Stephan McMillan, John McMillian IV, Kody and Austin Neville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Barbara.
Graveside services with military honors will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Sunset Cemetery, by Rev. Orville B. Jones, Jr. There is no visitation, but family and friends are invited to the graveside services. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Bob invited me to church 30 years ago when I was a teenager, and that was my first real introduction to Jesus. Miss you, Bob, wish I could call you up and say thank you again. Will do so in heaven.
Bob and I have been friends since 1975. Life moved me out of Quincy but we stayed in touch over the years. I last visited six months prior to him making this big move. When I left him and went home I felt it might be the last, yet I so wanted to come back for a visit again.
Its a little over a year from his passing and I still think of him as I use to. A good man and friend that I was honored to know and love.
Well Bob, so now you are with Jesus and preping for the great battle ahead of us all as you for a long time had prepared. I guess God decided you best serve Him on that side. Please if you are the ones of the returned wave, look me up!
See you on your side ……I hope in a few decades.

Bob worked here at WTJR for many years. He worked in master control. He also was involved in the renovation of the studio building at 222 North sixth street. We build a stage lighting grid together it was a lot of fun and good work.Bob enjoyed his firearms and we had a following out in our friendship over that issue. I did have a good talk with him about 2 months ago and we seemed to make amends. I am glad of that. I will miss you Bob. I have hope you made it to heaven as you always put value on the the spiritual walk.
I was very surprised and saddened to learn of Bobby’s passing. I had just became acquainted with him this year and he was interesting to talk to. He enjoyed life and especially his motorbike. He was witty with a good sense of humor and enjoyed the friendship of others. You will be missed Bob by your many friends,esp. at the Senior Center. RIP,my friend!
I AM DEEPLY SORRY TO HEAR OF THE DEATH OF MY DEAR FRIEND AND FORMER EMPLOYEE. ROBERT WAS A VERY FINE CRAFTSMAN AND WAS A VERY DEDICATED EMPLOYEE. I WILL MISS HIS MANY VISITS IN MY STORE AND HIS FRIENDSHIP. MAY GOD BLESS HIM.
