Robert F. (Bob) Hays II
Robert F. Hays II (Bob) passed away November 15, 2021, after nine months fighting numerous health issues. Bob was born to Robert F. (Frank) and Mary Lou (Lindhorst) Hays on October 16, 1956. He attended St. Rose and St. Francis Catholic School, Christian Brothers High School, Quincy Sr. High and Western IL University. He married Judy Shriver on January 20, 1989.
A realtor most of his life, Bob was the owning broker for Century 21 Awerkamp & Hays, and later merged with and became a broker agent with Century 21 Broughton Team. He enjoyed mentoring fellow agents and truly worked to accomplish win-win transactions.
Bob was a member of the National Association of Realtors, Quincy Association of Realtors (serving as president and also being awarded Realtor of the Year), The Elks Club and Quincy Exchange Club. He “volunteered” countless hours helping any organization Judy was involved with.
Cooking/feeding people was Bob’s hobby and ministry. His favorite holiday was Thanksgiving when he and his “frying friends” prepared countless turkeys in his garage. He enjoyed cars and had the uncanny ability to name the year/make/model of vehicles. We will forever remember his sense of humor, particularly his BOBisms.
Most of all, relationships were important to Bob. He worked to build personal and professional relationships. He made it a point to find a connection with each person he encountered. It was important to him to see people get along and work together – friends, family, and colleagues.
Bob is survived by his wife; mother; and four sisters Diane (Fred) Weber, Karla (Francis) Richmond, Lisa (Mike) Irvine, and Sharon (Steve) Vahlkamp; a sister-in-law Jane (Jeff) Noble; and brothers-in-law Dan (Carol) Shriver, Chip (Jeanne) Shriver, and Jonathan (Molly) Shriver; along with nieces and nephews Jason (Nicole) Weber, Laura (Joe) Rheinecker; Robbie (Kathy) Marold, Ryan Marold, Mike (Tiffany) Irvine, Mandy (Joel) Swisher, Anna Vahlkamp, Melissa (Adam) Hackamack, Crystal (Jeremy) Garman, Tim (MacKenzy) Shriver, Justin (Jena) Noble, Michael (Sarah) Shriver, Matthew (Ashley) Shriver, Luke Shriver, Paul (Angela) Shriver, Rachel (Garrett) Asher, and Ben Shriver. He especially enjoyed his great nieces & nephews Henry, Lucy, Jackson, Jordan, Samantha, Elizabeth, Meredith, Mia, Oliver, Hudson, Brinley, Brooklynn, Blake, Emma, Zander, Jemma, Anna, Troy, Autumn, Hunter, Everett, Sophie, Noah, Ayden, Riley, Conrad, Mavrick, Amy, Wilfred, Jaden, and Rachelle. He is also survived by aunts, an uncle, cousins, and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert F. Hays; In-laws Victor Jr. and Marilyn Shriver; and two nieces, Jennifer Noble and June Shriver.
Our family appreciates the compassion and expertise experienced at the Blessing Cancer Center, the outstanding care received during his multiple hospitalizations, and the opportunity to let him live his last days comfortably at home thanks to the Blessing Hospice team.
A Memorial Service is planned for Friday, November 26, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. There is no visitation, but family and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service. Bob requested memorials to Blessing Cancer Center or Blessing Hospice, in lieu of plants/flowers. He also encouraged those wanting to physically do something to donate blood to the American Red Cross. Messages may be shared online at www.dukerandhaugh.com
