Robert “Bob” Mowen
Robert “Bob” Louis Mowen age 84, of 510 South Main St. Liberty, IL died on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 8:22 a.m. in his home. Robert was born on April 22, 1928 in Adams County, IL, a son of William and Anna (Vonholt) Mowen. He married Bernice M. Barry on March 2, 1957 in St. Brigid’s Catholic Church in Liberty, IL, where he had been a member since.
Mr. Mowen served in the United States Army from 1952-1954 where he served one year in Germany as Sergeant at a Convalescent Hospital. Upon his return to the States, he attended G.I. Agriculture Classes in Liberty. He spent most of his life as a farmer.
Bob loved his grandchildren and telling them stories from his younger years. He loved outdoor work such as gardening and doing yard work in his later years.
He was an active member of St. Brigid Catholic Church.
In addition to his wife Bernice, he is survived by their four children, Kent R. Mowen and his wife Robin of Liberty; LeAnne B. Wright of Quincy; Cheryl L.O’Conner and her husband Scot of Tehachapi, CA and Mark A. Mowen of Quincy.
13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren survive, along with two sisters, and Mildred Doyle of Pittsfield, IL and Betty (Homer) Graham of Liberty ; two brothers, Jess (Rita) Mowen of Liberty and Donald (Connie) Mowen of rural Quincy. A sister-in-law, Kathleen Mowen of Camp Point, IL and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Melissa Angela Allensworth, and two sisters, Gladys Deeter and Dorothy Mowen; four brothers, Elmer, Omer, Harold and Wayne Mowen.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh
Funeral Home with a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Brigid Catholic Church by Rev. Jeff Stone. Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 at Duker & Haugh. Memorials have been suggested to St. Brigid Catholic Church or Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
