Robert (Bob) M. Obert
Robert (Bob) M Obert, 89, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of Liberty, Illinois died October 2, 2022, at the Illinois Veterans Home. Robert was born on November 16, 1932 in Quincy Illinois, the son of Mathias and Esther (Hufendick)Obert. He married Alice ‘Jane’ Genenbacher on January 12, 1963 at St Francis Church in Quincy, Illinois. She survives.
Robert attended St Michael’s school and was of strong Catholic faith. Robert served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Liberty American Legion and would volunteer at the Illinois Veterans Home. Robert was a dairy farmer in the Liberty area for over 40 years. He enjoyed listening to the Chicago Cubs play while he was milking cows.
Robert’s enjoyment was his children and grandchildren. When he retired, he continued farming and enjoyed driving his grandchildren to school, sporting events, PSR and getting ice-cream at Ayerco in Liberty. Robert also enjoyed drinking coffee at Mike’s Place/Ayerco in Liberty with the local guys.
Robert is survived by five children: Connie (Jeff) Huber, Bob (Kelly) Obert, Glenn (Sara) Obert all of Liberty, Lynn (Dr David) Wright Quincy, and Randy (Kim) Obert of Springfield, Illinois.
Fourteen grandchildren: Dr Gavin (Karishma) Huber of Michigan; Garret Huber of Golden, Illinois; Jeffrey, Jordan (Shelby) Obert of Quincy, Levi Obert, Camp Point, Katelyn Obert (Lucas Booher, fiancé), Landon, Clayton, Karlee, Claire, Kenzie all of Liberty; Preston, Joseph and Lucas from Springfield, Illinois. Brothers: Paul of Gibson City, Illinois, Alvin ‘Butch’ (Dorothy) Obert of Camp Point and sister Carol Vogel of Quincy, Illinois. Brother-in-law-Jim (Elaine) Genenbacher, Quincy, IL, Robert (Deanna) DiMucci, Naples Fl., Sisters-in-law-Mary Ellen Melander, North Dakota, Annie Hoebing, Emma (Jerry) Eldridge, Cathy (Larry) Hildebrand Quincy, Illinois. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Donald and Richard Obert; sister, Marjorie Hufendick; sisters-in-law- Anna Mae, Delores, and Carol Obert; Dolly Genenbacher and Constance Di Mucci; brothers-in-law, Loren Hufendick, Ronald Vogel, Claude Wiewel, Dennis Melander, Robert Genenbacher, Richard Hoebing, and Donald Aune.
A private burial is being planned. Memorials may be made to Liberty Education Foundation, St Brigid’s Catholic Church, Illinois Veterans home activity fund or charity of donor’s choice.
