Robert “Bob” Hilgenbrinck

Robert “Bob” Hilgenbrinck died peacefully on November 29th at 8:25 PM in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bloomington, IL at the age of 84. He was surrounded by his family and the multitudes of the angels and saints in Christ.

Bob was born on January 6th 1930 in Quincy, IL to Herman and Marie Maas Hilgenbrinck. He was a student at Fairview grade school in the Ursa bottoms and then attended Ursa High School through his junior year. In his senior year, he transferred to and graduated from Notre Dame High School in Quincy. Bob served as a corporal in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a lifelong farmer in which he strived to excel. Farming was his passion but he also enjoyed horses and hunting. Bob was a member of the Soil and Water Conservation Board for Adams County and he also served on the board of the North Adams Nursing Home.

Bob professed a firm faith in Jesus Christ and was an active member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Mendon, IL. He was a member of St. Edwards Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus. Bob will be remembered by many as a charitable and honest man in his community.

Bob was a faithful and loving husband to Mary, to whom he was married for 61 years and he was also a faithful and loving father to his children.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Hilgenbrinck of Heritage Nursing Home in Bloomington, IL; his siblings, Don Hilgenbrinck of Good Samaritan Home in Quincy, IL, Geraldine Foust of Palmyra, MO, and Bill (Janet) Hilgenbrinck of Lima, IL; his two sons, Mike (Kim) Hilgenbrinck of Bloomington, IL, and Tony (Lori) Hilgenbrinck of Ursa, IL; son-in-law Steve Ward of Mendon, IL; grandchildren, Blaise (Krista) Hilgenbrinck of Bloomington, IL, Rev. Chase Hilgenbrinck of Moline, IL, Zachary Ward of Cedar Rapids, IA, Sara (Randy) Koch of Quincy, IL, Becky Ward of Mendon, IL, Andrew Hilgenbrinck of Quincy, IL, Maria Hilgenbrinck of Quincy, IL, Maria’s fiance Seth Leonard, Anna Hilgenbrinck of Ursa, IL; and nine great grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Marilyn, his daughter Christina Ward, and an infant son, Anthony Hilgenbrinck.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 5th at 10:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM in St. Francis Solanus Parish in Quincy, IL officiated by Rev. Chase Hilgenbrinck. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, December 4th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM with the Rosary at 3:30 at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Edward’s Church in Mendon.
