Robert “Bob” Cline OBITUARY
Robert “Bob” Cline age 86, of 2801 Parkwood, Quincy died peacefully on Sunday, December 23, 2012 at 9:27 a.m. in his home. Bob was born August 7, 1926 in Menard County, IL a son of Joseph and Julia M. (Peterson) Cline. He married Virginia Ruth Ventress on April 28, 1946 in the First Christian Church in Springfield, IL.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1944-1946 aboard an LCT. Following his service, Bob attended the College of Mortuary Science in St. Louis, MO and worked as a mortician for four years in Springfield and Tuscola, IL area.
He joined the Illinois State Police in 1954. He retired in 1984 with the rank of Lieutenant and as the director of Fleet Services for the State of Illinois.
Bob and Ruth in Mt. Pulaski, IL for over 40 years raising their three daughters. They vacationed for over 40 years every winter in Naples, FL. They enjoyed many outdoor activities. Bob also enjoyed taking care of his lawn, trees, shrubs and flowers.
Bob was a member of the First Christian Church in Quincy. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 60 years, and was also a Shriner for 30 years.
In addition to Ruth, his wife of 66 1/2 years, survivors include daughters, Alessandra “Sandy” of Lafayette, CO and Lynn Shima and her husband Dr. Mark Shima of Hannibal, MO;
A grand daughter, Amanda Baietto and grandson Michael; step-grandchildren, Mark T. and Carolyn K. Shima and an adopted grandson, Justin Newby.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Sue Ann Newby-Steinblock.
A Memorial Visitation is planned for Saturday, December 29, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at a later date in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church or to the Quincy Public Library.
