Robert “Bob” Brod
Robert (Bob) Raymond Brod,age 88, of Quincy, died peacefully on April 11, 2018 at Blessing Hospital. Bob was born to the late Raymond and Helen (Wiskerchin) Brod on April 27, 1929. As a boy he attended St. Mary’s Catholic grade school and then graduated from Notre Dame High School in Quincy, in 1948. Bob served in the U.S. Army in 1951 and was deployed to an air base in England where he served as a quadruple machine gunner.
On October 9, 1954 Bob married the late Wilhelmina (Billie) Dietrich in New Berlin, IL. They were happily married for over 49 years until Billie passed away in 2003. Bob worked at Illinois State Bank for 18 years and then at Western Catholic Union for 19 years. Throughout those years he also had his own storage business. For more than 47 years Brod Boat Storage was an important part of his life.
Mr. Brod is survived by his three children and their spouses: Brian Brod and his wife Jean, Bonnie (Brod) Nytes and her husband Bob, and Blaine Brod and his wife Jennifer., four grandchildren: Brandon Brod and his wife Stacey, Brent Brod and his fiancé Judith McFarlane, Anna (Nytes) Keller and her husband Nathan, and Gabriel Nytes, 2 great-grandchildren: Isabella and Sawyer Brod. He is also survived by his brother Roger Brod and his wife Rita and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his longtime companion Delores Blacketer.
For many years Bob and his wife (Billie) were involved in Toastmasters. They were instrumental in bringing the Cursillo movement from Peoria to Quincy, and Bob was the Rector of Quincy Cursillo #9. Bob and Billie were active in the Cursillo and T.E.C. (Teens Encounter Christ) Movements as well as activities in their home parish (St. Marys/ Blessed Sacrament).
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 10:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Blessed Sacrament Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Quincy Cursillo, Great River T.E.C., or Blessed Sacrament Parish. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
