Rita M. Terford

Rita M. Terford age 78, of 3829 Evergreen North died on Monday, December 24, 2012 at 6:35 p.m. in St. Vincent’s Home. Rita was born December 23, 1934 in Quincy, a daughter of the late Frank and Helen (Freiburg) Wensing. She married John”Jack”Terford on May 5, 1962 and they celebrated their 50th anniversary this year.

She was a 1952 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame. Rita was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Years ago, she had worked at Gem City Savings and Loan.

She was a member of the Church of St. Peter, where she served as Eucharistic minister and participated in the Adoration Chapel from its beginning. She worked on the funeral luncheon committee, was a member of the Little Rock Scripture Study group, and the Legion of Mary. Rita also helped at Sunset Home with bringing the residents holy communion. She was a longtime member of the Western Catholic Union.

She truly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, taking walks with her husband, planting flowers, and reading.

Rita is survived by her husband, Jack, and her children, Joseph Terford of Quincy; Christine Scherr and her husband Stephen of St. Louis, Elizabeth”Beth”McCarthy and her husband Joseph of O’Fallon, MO. Three granddaughters Kelly, Maryellen and Allison, and one grandson John.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four brothers, Norbert, Paul, Francis and Dr. Robert Wensing.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter, officiated by Msgr. Leo Enlow and Fr. Roy Bauer. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary service at 3:45 p.m. Thursday. Memorials are suggested to St. Peter Parish or to the Sacred Heart Southern Mission.

    Uncle Jack, Chris, Joe, and Beth:
    I will always remember Aunt Rita’s kindness and loving way about her.

    I was honored to have her as my godmother
    You have been blessed to have such a wonderful mother.
    I am sure she was met at the gates of heaven by her brothers.

    Dear Uncle Jack, Joe, Chris, Beth and Family,

    Tim, Mom (Rosemary) and I wish we could be with you today.

    Rita is with The Lord and she will always be wth you and yours just as I know my Dad is with me everyday for the past 36 years.

    I always will remember being the ring bearer in Rita and Jack’s wedding more that 50 years ago. Its one of my first memories and we will also remember all the fun times we had at picnics and Christmas together.

    Grace (4), Christian (14) and Mae Lynn (6) join with Hartley, Giovanna Tim, Rosemary and me in praying that God will send His angels to bring you peace now and always.
