Rita M. Dreier
Rita M. Dreier, age 92, of rural Quincy passed away at the Illinois Veterans Home, on Thursday, March 4, 2016 at 3:53 p.m. surrounded by her family.
The daughter of Maurice Albert and Clara Angela (Hoebing) Wand, Rita was born on November 13, 1923, in Quincy, IL. She was married for 58 years to Raymond Joseph Dreier, who died in 2001. They had nine children.
Rita was a former communion minister and lector, choir member, and organist at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, as well as a member of the St. Anthony Altar Society, the Ministry of Praise Prayer Group, and Quincy Cursillo.
She graduated from Mock’s Upholstery School and later taught there. She owned her own upholstery business and worked as a tailor at Ruth’s, Forbes, and Sears. At the same time, she was a homemaker and helped her husband Raymond run the couple’s dairy farm.
She is survived by seven of her children: Herb Dreier and wife Mary Michael, Decatur, IL.; Jean Maruska and husband Paul, Springfield, IL.; Ron Dreier and wife Joyce, Olathe, KS.; Jerry Dreier and wife Trudy, Quincy; Mary Young and her companion Bob Tipton, Quincy; Chris Reuschel and husband Mark, Fowler, IL; and Ann Wolter and husband Jeff, Quincy.
Rita was the proud grandmother of 18 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 15 step-great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She is also survived by her sisters Sister Clare (Florence) Wand, Joliet, IL, Pauline Uppinghouse, Plainville,IL, and Helen Friedhoff and Ruth Wand, both of Quincy; sisters-in-law Margaret Lee, Topeka, KS, and Dolores Ward, Liberty, MO.; son-in-law Bill Botting, Wilmington, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Raymond, and parents, Rita was preceded in death by her stepmother, Emily Wand; two daughters, Debbie Dreier and Maggie Botting, brothers Henry Wand along with his wife Alice, Joe Wand, and Simon Wand; sisters Margaret Kratzer Klauser along with her first husband Jude Kratzer and also her second husband Al Klauser, Theresa Halfpap along with her husband Seig, and Angela Wand; son-in-law Tom Young; and brothers-in-law Don Uppinghouse and Bill Friedhoff.
Services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 9:15 AM in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, March 7, 2016 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at St. Anthony Catholic Church. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at the Illinois Veterans Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
Our Heartfelt condolences to Rita’s whole family. We know she was loved. How wonderful to have such a large family! Though it does seemed she lived a good long life, we know that Rita will still be missed very much, and hearts will ache for her earthly presence.
