Richard W. Deters

Richard W. Deters, age 91, of 1001 Hampshire, died on Sunday, January 15, 2017 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on March 29, 1925 in Quincy the son of Helen Deters. He married Geraldynn B. King on January 28, 1956 in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She survives.

Mr. Deters was retired from the United States Military, US National Guard and Reserves. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in the South Pacific during WWII. Mr. Deters also served in the Korean War. He later worked for 20 years for Knapheide Manufacturing as a sheer operator, retiring in 1990. He also drove for Gem City Transfer.

Richard was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the WCU. He enjoyed going to ballgames and was an avid CUBS fan. Richard also diligently followed Quincy High School basketball. He was also a member of American Legion Post #37.

SIX CHILDREN: Charles M. Deters and his wife Margaret of Brandon, MS; Richard L. Deters and his wife Donna of Oakbrook, IL, Ronald W. Deters and his wife Sherri of Springfield, IL; Crystal Deters of LaGrange, IL, Patricia M. Deters of Quincy and Gerald D. Deters and his wife Jean of Quincy.
19 GRANDCHILDREN: Cade Deters and his wife Donna; Jeremy Deters and his wife Britt; Nickolas Deters; Bridgette Griffin and her husband Corey; Christopher Deters and Gretchen Deters; Chad Deters and Jacob Deters; Annie Reimann; Bethany Brown and her husband Garris, Nicole Sidell and her husband Jonathan, Jamie Deters, Samuel Deters, Evan Deters, Nathaniel Deters, Matthew Deters, Zachary Deters, Gianna Deters and Tobias Deters.
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Eric, Mari Ashlyn, Carter, Jayden, Maximillian, Kaden, and Samson.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother, a brother Robert D. Deters and a son: Anthony Deters in infancy.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 9:30 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Catholic Church or to Masses to be said in his memory. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. www.dukerandhaugh.com

    Dear Mrs. Deters and children, So sorry about the lost of your husband and father. Meeting Mrs. Deters and knowing her own family, her mother Leona King and that family many years, I knew they all came from a good family. I thank God to have known them and also Gerald and his family who attend St. Rose. I will have a mass said for Mr. Deters.
